Exported models kinda bright

Yes indeed. All andquot;usageandquot; questions have to be asked in the forums so that everyone benefits from the question/answer. The answer is that the axis origin can’t be made bigger. Sorry.

Richard

I’ve noticed all my models after exported into the sim have this same character, they are lit all night long and are brighter than my other models done by TSM. Is there a way I can turn this brightness off? Looking at the model in Shape Manager, it shows the texture mode as normal but alas I’m not really familiar with Shape Manager to really know what I’m talking about. Any help be appreciated.

One other question too… when I go to change the axis origin, I have a real hard time seeing that sucker. Is there a good way to keep tabs on it. It tends to blink in and out of existence for me. Thanks!

Strange that SFM shows normal for all groups. If your models are illuminated in the night the setting must be andquot;brightandquot;.

Not so strange – it is not the texture mode that is wrong here, it is the shader name at the start of the S file.
it is set to andquot;BlendATexandquot; or andquot;Texandquot; and should be andquot;BlendATexDiffandquot; or andquot;TexDiffandquot;

You’re right about the lighting modes.
The way to fix the model is to update the texture mode for all the objects (with the update texture plugin)
It’s not a small job as you need to load the correct texture file first, make sure your settings are correct and run the plugin for each object in the model.

Alternatively, edit the S file and change the named_shader entry to add the andquot;Diffandquot;

Did you check the settings in the Material Palette? For best results they should be
Ambient: 20
Specular: 5
Translucent:0

For night-lighting you would use Specular: 0

If you want it a bit on the darker side chose
Ambient:10

Although 3DC trainsim wizard isn’t too reliable concerning the texture-mode values I have the best experience with SFM. I always check my models after exporting with SFM if everything is correct.

Thanks guys! I applied the Diff fix and that did the trick. Now my 3dC buildings blend with my TSM buildings. <!– s:-) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":-)" title="Smile" /><!– s:-) –>

Any takers on how to make the axis of origin more easily seen? 3dC tech supt wouldn’t answer the question for me awhile back and cause they said I needed to ask the question here. Thanks!
