Hi andnbsp;;D

Is there someone who want to help me with the creation of a easy doc for the users of 3DC LP/Pro

because I don’t know anything about scripting for 3DC, and I’m think many users of 3DC ( especially new users) has the same problem. I would like to create a easy guide for scripting based on the explanation of the site:
1 [img:2erdcdx4]http&#58;//msdn&#46;microsoft&#46;com/library/default&#46;asp?url=/library/en-us/script56/html/vsfctasc&#46;asp[/img:2erdcdx4]
<!– m –><a class="postlink" href="http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/script56/html/vsfctasc.asp">http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defau … fctasc.asp</a><!– m –>

:-[
the only plus I want that you write is that you explained it at as if I was Totally dum

If you want to help me creating that document
send me at <!– e –><a href="mailto:draicker2003@hotmail.com">draicker2003@hotmail.com</a><!– e –>
the explanation you wrote with as subject:

create easy document for 3DC scripting

I will update this topic so that you know for which code an explation has been wrote.
for example:
3DCApp andnbsp; andnbsp;Getpath andnbsp; andnbsp;OK

have you seen the tutorial link on the Amabilis site? andnbsp; You might be able to use some of that for a document. andnbsp; If you can understand the stuff at the microsoft link you posted, you should be able to understand my stuff.

The link was going slow tonight. andnbsp;I’ll repost the tutorial to a better locaiton soon.

If you want to coordinate a bigger documentation project, that would probably be useful. andnbsp;Might be slow though (with people like me helping out….)

I don’t disagree. The online help for plug-ins and scripting is very basic. But there are examples. There are 12 example plug-ins and 4 example scripts available to learn from. Its not ideal and Draiker2003 is right that a more thorough document with more examples would be great. But, unfortunatley it isn’t something that I have time to do.

Richard,

I agree that it is beyond scope and / or capabilities of 3DC-online Help to explain VB Script. But one thing in my IT expierience for more than 20 years is that online help can only be used as a reference for expirienced users.
Your explanations in the scripting help are technically and syntactically exact, but for me they are very similar to my first contact to unix manpages. A wealth of information, but without a sample or explanation from expirienced users almost useless for beginners. I believe a ‘red thread’ of examples based on the same simple thing throughout all the topics (f.e. makefacefrompoints ) will be a valuable source.
The main problem with IT in common and specially programming is that the first step is very high because you need to reach the point from which you can enlarge your knowledge by your own. Like children learning mothers tonge. They learn by example and roughly about the point when they turned 6 they go to school and can improve their vocabulary more or less by their own.

It’s not really possible for the 3DC online help to explain Visual Basic scripting, or 3D mesh manipulation for that matter. It is something that you need to learn elsewhere.

There are many non-3D related books on learning Visual Basic/VBScript. That’s a good place to start.

As for 3D, once you know how to program in Visual Basic the examples will make much more sense and you may be able to learn 3D from the example scripts/plug-ins.
