Confused!

It was a model I did’nt really care about so I wasnt that upset [img]http://community.groupee.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif’ alt=’Razz’ width=’15’ height=’15’]

I’m a little confused about unwrapping my model and UV mapping it.I have been importing my models from wings 3d and unwrapping them and then importing textures and painting them on and then exporting to a game engine and they show up beautifully.But I have skipped the UV map part.My question is,do I have to UV map a model or can I just unwrap it and texture it and be done?I does’nt seem to affect the model in the game at all but I’m afraid down the road it might cause problems.I would hate to have to retexture all the models I made because of this.Thanks for your help in advance. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Hi…

I’m no expert – but – here is what I have found in my use of mapping (UnWrap, UV Map, and UV Re-Map)operations…

I use the Unwrap – if I want guides placed on a texture to aid me in actually creating the texture… I use it most often when working with cylinders where I want straight lines and complex details…

I use the UV Map if I already have a good texture and just want greater precision in placing the texture on the shape…

I use the Remap for fine adjustments…

To the best of my knowledge – I don’t think it matters which type of operation you use to apply your texture… I believe they are just different tools to achieve the same result…

Some people like using third party software for complex mapping issues such as Ultimate Unwrap…
