Hi George,
I’ve been playing with your code <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
The next Alpha of 4.3 will include a Terrain creation tool. I implemented Height-Maps and random terrain myself, and I have added (with a few modifications) your script code to provide Fractal terrain. It works really well actually. Pretty nifty. Thanks again for the code!!! <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –> (Oh, and I will still be sending out the actual code that you wrote as a sample plugin).
The biggest change I had to make to the code was to generate triangles instead of quads because the deformation of a single quad was too large to produce good rendering results.
Thanks again,
Richard

See previous message.
The scripts are too long to post, it seems.
The attached file is really a zip file with the two scripts in it.
You’ll have to rename it .zip. andnbsp;Hope this trick works.

Hi,
I was able to get the file. I’m going to give it a try today. I’m very curious, but other priorities are getting in my way.

Good oh. andnbsp;Hope it works for you. andnbsp;I’ve jjust discovered something strange and something good.
(As well as this display not showing the letter j after using Povray????)
The routing that makes a flat terrain seems to make a second grid of points. andnbsp;I haven’t worked out what it’s doing yet, so just watch that. andnbsp;
Also the terrain appears to be made upside down – that is the surface is editable from the bottom. andnbsp; Is this normal for a surface? andnbsp;Do you understand the question?
And the good thing. andnbsp;I used the flat terrain, slightly distorted and with a non-dense grid (the default in fact) to make a poster with wrinkles to stick on a wall. andnbsp;Just a couple of distortions at the corner, then fractalised with the default values. andnbsp;I haven’t managed to get it through povray yet but it looks quite good.
CUGEeorge, and I really have to reboot this laptop and hope some of my letters come back …

It does work. I haven’t figured out what all of the parameters are yet though.
If you reverse the winding order of the polygon creation they will be pickable and visible even when rendering single-sided polygons.
I’m going to have a look at it a bit more later. Do you have a version 1.1 available? If so can you send me a copy? (<!– e –><a href="mailto:richard@amabilis.com">richard@amabilis.com</a><!– e –>)

Cooleroo
Funny how usefel it’s been. andnbsp;I’ve used it to make a poster as I said. andnbsp;I even use a small grid to make post-it notes with a little random crumple effect. andnbsp;I also plan to use it for a blanket and beach towel thrown on the ground. andnbsp; Not necessarily realistic, but I like the effect.
Can’t wait to try the new flavours <!– s:-) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!– s:-) –>
