Yes! It does work! Thanks, Bazza. I obviously didn’t know what the heck I was doing… [img:3t6ky8xq]http://community.groupee.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif’%20alt=’Roll%20Eyes’%20width=’15’%20height=’15[/img:3t6ky8xq]

Hi all,
I can’t, for the life of me, find ‘ground level’ for Trainz. My models come into the game about half height then have to be raised up.
I have moved my model all over the building area in 3DC but have been unable to figure it out.
Could someone help me determine where ground level is, please?

Hi thegrinde, I havn’t used my 3DC for some time now, but I am sure you will have to use the shift axis mode ( select the icon which looks like a square within a square on the R.H.S of the 3DC screen) And then hold ctrl and mouse pointer shift using the RH corner ‘doofer’ to move the axis down to ground level. When the shift axis mode is selected, the object will turn green. Save and re-export to Trainz.

Thanks, Fender, but I’m not having any trouble moving the model around, it’s finding ground level that’s the problem. Where is ground level??? LOL
Thanks,
Rick

I don’t use any of the train sims but I suspect Trainz will be using the axis of the model as the ground level.
If the axis is in the center of the model this could be the problem.
Try using either the shift tool or operation in 3DC to shift the axis along it’s y axis so it is at the base of the building.

Using my trusty ol’ calculator, I have moved this thing along the ‘Y’ axis from well below zero all the way up to infinity for the past 3+ hours and it never has budged one iota when placing it in the game.
I’m totally lost as to how to do it.
Thanks,
Rick
P.S. Bingo! I see it! I think I know what you mean, Bazza… <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
(Now, I have to figure out how to move that axis.)

There are a couple of ways to move the axis/model depending on the version you are using.
Try this…
1) Make sure you are in Edit using object Coords on the top toolbar.
2) Using either front, back or side views position the camera so are in line with the base of the model.
3) Select the model and on the right hand toolbar click the shift tool.
4) Using the bottom right Move/Rotate gizmo, move the model along it’s y axis till the axis lines up with the model base.
Should work ok

I have tried that, Bazza, and the main body of the model moves along with the axis.
I need to move the whole model along the ‘Y’ axis with all of it’s groups attached, leaving the little yellow dot where it is OR, move the little yellow dot all by its self.
Thanks,
Rick
P.S. I have the latest version of 3DC Pro as of a few days ago.

The above does work, practice with a basic cube in a new scene till you get the hang of it.
Select the cube, with the LMB, click the shift tool, then move the mouse over the bottom right Gizmo and drag the cube along it’s y axis.

Sorry my mistake….do this
Click the Shift tool first, then select the cube, then move the cube using the bottom right gizmo, the axis will remain stationary.
