It does seem a bit odd not to include the Update Material plugin with the Plus version when the Uv mapping feature is included, as you really need the Update Material plugin with the UV Mapping.
Maybe Richard can come up with a solution to the problem.

Hi,
I’m programming my first game and I need horses, spiders and other animals for that.
I’ve alreday worked with the human skeleton and I am able to animate it.
But how can I create my own Skeleton? The human skeleton doesn’t fit in the horse-object…
kind regards

Thank you very much, that helped me a lot!
But I have another problem now:
How can I make a Texture on e.g a human with only one Texture-File (e.g JPG or BMP)
When I use the Unwrap Operation, I just can make texture on the front side of the human and would need a second texture for the back side.
Do you have an idea/tutorial?
Than you very much for your help so far!
kind regards

hello mesmes,
to get both sides of the model you need to select the faces on the model you wish to unwrap…if you want the whole front of the model then select the faces on the front of the model and click the unwrap tool…it is best to clear the texture you have selected in the material pallet first by clicking the red ‘x’ this will make the texture plain white…you can also select the faces of each part of the model…like front of boots…back of boots…gun holster….stuff like that…each item will be placed on the plain texture for you to position…this texture can then be opened in your favorite paint program for you to paint each item…i have included a link to the 3dc tutorial on unwrapping below…read and study this carefully…hope this helps…pirate

Ok, that was the first impression, that it works.
I just read the tutorial very fast, had not much time and thought ‘Ok, great’ Then I was away for some days and when i tried again i had this problem:
One step of the tutorial says:
With all faces still selected choose Use Plug-in-andgt;UpdateMaterial from the Tools menu.
But this function doesn’t exist… I thought i have to download it with the 3DC Extras, but that didn’t help…
So I can’t do the last step with UV ReMap because the wrong texture (just squares) is selected.
What to do?
kind regards

The layout of the Use Plug-in menu has changed since the tutorial was first writen.
You will find the Update Material plugin under…
Tools andgt;andgt; Use Plug-ins andgt;andgt; Material.

I hate to step on this thread but, can you help me with animating some wheels for a train car?
I read the bones thing above but it doesn’t appear to fit my situation.
Sorry and thanks,

It very much depends for what simulator you’re needing the wheels animated. But for most Sims, the wheels will animate by themselves as long as they’re defined correctly.
What in particular are you trying to do?

That doesn’t exist, too….
It’s like this:
Tools andgt;andgt; Use Plug-ins andgt;andgt; Material andgt;andgt; None Available
Of course, when I choose None Available, nothing happens.
Do I have to install Plug-ins? I have Installed 3DC Extras.

Which version of 3DC are you using?
I think the Update Material plug-in is only available with the Pro upgrade.

I am using the Plus Version.
But the tutorial says:
‘The Unwrap Operation is part of 3DC [b:1s0ha116]Plus[/b:1s0ha116]/Pro.’
and here [img:1s0ha116]http://www.3DC.com/3DCDocumentation/registration.htm[/img:1s0ha116]

Yes but I thought you wanted the Update Material plug-in.
This is only available with the Pro version.

The tutorials are a bit out of date but I think Richard has someone looking into this and updating them as required.
Without the Pro version I think you are going to find it difficult to achieve the results you are looking for with 3DC.
Unwrapping is a good example of this.
However even with the Pro version certain features can be made much better by using an application dedicated just to one feature.
If you intend to do a lot of unwrapping you would be better off with something like Ultimate Unwrap 3D, that’s what I use for complex unwraps.

So I don’t have a chance to texture a object like a human correctly with the Plus Version?
Can I buy the Pro version cheaper, when I have the Plus version? I don’t want to pay more, when in the tutorials are such mistakes!
kind regards
