bones !

Now i’ve understood how to create my own skeleton, model skin and could animate it with ik ! I’m very happy !

My english knowledge is limited… so just _thank you_ Alan !

Hi everybody…
I’m trying to understand ‘bones’.

I attempt to modelize an simple cartoon like model for my game (in md2 format). Before create its skeleton, i’ve tried to understand how 3dc works with bones…

I’ve readed the tutorial about this (the ant), but there isn’t any downloaded file sample with the bones. So, i can’t really test…

Is somebody have a small 3dc file about this ? Only a cylinder with two bones attached to simulate an arm ! it should be a good start for me ! I’m newbie !

Thanks !

blaydrnnnr, you can dowload these files here :

Hi Alan,

If it’s not too much trouble, can you e-mail me the simple bones models as well? I am also going to take a look at the way they work. I did download the ant with bones model. Is this a andquot; workingandquot; bones model? ( will i be able to manipulate it? … I havent looked at it yet)
andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; andnbsp; Thanks in advance…

Cool and simples examples ! Now i can test and understand bones !

Many thanks for this Alan !

uhm… i don’t understand why i can’t do the same thing ! Where is the bug ?

hub – I have emailed you a couple of very simple scenes (arm and snake) – hope they help

Have a look at the snake1 scene – this is ik active.

I just right clicked the bone and picked ik – not looked into fixed / rotation range yet………

ik only works going up through the snake (towards what I think of as the head) so if you pick the centre of teh snake some will bend and some will just move around the upper section. andnbsp;hope this makes sense and that I have it right.

Also the snake will deform too much if you go beyond about 70 degs. – I am sure there are things I could do here to make it better but I don’t know what yet…. just one of the many things yet to learn…..

Thanks Alan, it works fine now !

Just a new question. What’s are the modifications to do if i want now an ik arm ? (when you move the lower bone, the upper bone automatically move)

Thanks for your patience !

hub – also turn the lower bone around – the andquot;fatandquot; ends are the joints.

blaydrnnnr – I think there are two versions of ant out there – one with bones and one without ! (but don’t quote me <!– s:) –><!– s:) –> ) In the tutorial you need the boneless one, as you add the bones to it. Not sure about the one with bones – I think it is a working model but I aint downloaded it !

hub – you need to add latitude to your cylinder (left double click and inc. it here) this is where the andquot;armandquot; will bend – no joint no bend <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
