Anybody interested in modelling a Classic Fishing Boat / Tra

You are very welcome!

Hi, I am new here as you see, and I post here in ‘Models’ to find somebody who did something like the following boat already, or something similar: It’s a real-world boat project, so a 3D model would help to visualize the deck / cabin layout before cutting wood in reality.

A template would help as well. I never used 3D software before: is it possible to ‘import’ a 2D picture/drawing into the 3D program to start from there?

PS: I don’t want to bother you guys with how to qustions, thats the tutorials for, I know. The purpose of this post is to find people with ‘boat’ modelling experience for some feedback.

There is a guy on UKTrainsim forum that does boats.
Goes by the user name of Captainbazza.

Cheers

yes I can help you with his email address if you need it.

Thanks for the hint to both of you, I’ll contact him. ‘Captainbazza’ sounds already like boats, more than trains for sure.

Hi there, I am new here too, but I do make boats and ships for my and other Virtual Sailor owners. Most 3D programs like 3DC can import a background scene as help by building. In 3DC it is called a backdrop, and easy to import.
I will try to make an easy scetch in 3D from this ship. To do that faster I will use AC3D for a moment. To make it look like real a real picture of such ship would be helpfull. In 3DC and AC3D you are free to use any picture as texture. Painting is best done in 3DC it has several futures to handle the textures.
Most work was to allign the axis in 3D programs in relation to the axis used in game/simulator axis, and the scaling. For ship building there are no special plugins in most programs (xept some real expensive ones made by dassault and used in Quest3D)
Building in 3D is more or less the same in all programs.
Datestamp: start building a boat start after this post <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

commend: it takes 7 hours to build (custom, line by line) and 3 hours to get it tuned for VS. Not a record time, but this was a nice lesson.

Thanks for the drawing (however not clear enoug to see it all right.

@woodenboat
: this ship is good! You can start cutting the first log <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Here is your boat:as said; Not that I make myself any illusions that anyone reads posts in the beginner section (xept me?) but here is a global 3D overview of the ship build after the example posted here.

b.t.w. what kind of feedback do you want exactly?

Thank you for the unexpected Birthday Present! :O)

I am stunned and delighted to see what you created – I am speechless, thank you very much!

I sit right on her when writing this, hightide at the moment, a bit sunny, quite nicely afloat. At the moment I have made the 3 main deckbeams for the midsection, they go in this week. The next bigger step is the modification of the right cabin side, old tank and engine out, renewed engine in, closing deck and cabin..

The plan which I uploaded on the forum in my ‘weired’ post *g* was the partly unmodified plan, the lenght of cabin and mid-deckhouse are correct, but I did not changed the width, as you see in the new plan and the pictures of the cabin modification on the left/port side.

However, your Animation is fanstastic to see for me and far more than I expected – I thought to get some help to make a 3D plan myself, which is far beyond my capabilities I bet.

Kind Regards!
