Animation Problems

Glad to hear it is working now.

Richard

I was messing around with animations and ran into a problem. After animating a simple cube (Moving it back and forth while rotating), I tried to record and make an avi file. Everything works until the process starts to make the movie and box pops up with the message ‘Unable to configure compressor’-. After this happens, whenever I click on the ‘Play animation in full screen’- I get the error message ‘#13’- and the program terminates. After reopening 3DC, the ‘Play animation in full screen’- function works properly until I try to make a movie, then the process above starts all over again.

I went through all the tutorials in the help files %100 and did not run into this problem when making avi’s from the animation tutorials G I even made a movie of the Whale flapping his tale. I’m running V6.5 using windows XP. The only major modification to my computer since last animating trouble free was changing my disk system from FAT32 to NTSF. Thanks for any help.

could this be down to the codex that you are using – have you tried another ?

Hey Alan, I’m not sure what you mean by codex. Is this a script or a function within the program that makes the avi files?

I’m just using all default settings. I accomplished this simple task not less then a week ago. Even the animations I made movies of in thae past, will not work either. Just not sure why the function fails. I even uninstalled and reinstalled 3DC.

I would guess this is a Windows problem. You may want to try System Restore if you are running XP.

Should of been codec not codex <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
When you are about to ave the avi it is the compression setting/method that you can choose – have you tried other settings (in case the ‘codec’ has been damaged ?)

Hey Alan,
I have no idea how to get the box you displayed, I tried looking for it everywere. Is this box accesible from 3DC? When I hit the ‘make animation into movie button’, I do not se were to find this option, or any other advanced options, on the first screen ‘Recording Options’ and when the ‘Save As’ boxes appears.

Thanks for the help.

It will be displayed right after the ‘Save as’ prompt. If it doesn’t you should look at updating your Windows Media Player or perhaps look at restoring your system to an earlier time (using Windows XP’s System Restore) since this is a standard feature of Windows and should be displayed.

All right, I checked out most of the Windows components that would relate to this problem for my system, including the codecs; all seemed to be in check. I ran Windows update to scan my system for updates and a few new ones popped up, none of them critical. I selected, downloaded, and installed: Windows player series 9, update for Jet 4.0 service pack 8, and a few patches for the XP SP1. Well, it seemed to work, and I’m back to making movies.

Now for the odd part. The box for the compression options that Alan posted, never ever showed up before when I recorded an animation, even before I had problems. Now it appears and functions exceptionally.

So I guess the moral of the experience is, you have to keep your system up to date no matter how frivolous or non critical the updates seems to appear.

Alan and Rich thanks for the help, your suggestions pointed me in the right directions (Codecs and XP).

EDITED: I wrote this and posted before I saw Richards reply. The problem was the Media Player.
