713 Error followed by 91 error

3DCTV.exe starts alright, but when I select a tutorial to watch, it immediately (as soon as I click on the name of the tutorial in the drop down list) reports an error “Run-time rror ‘-2147467259 (80004005)’: C:Program Files\Tutorials\b-3DCrafter Basic.ctu’ no es una ruta de acceso vรกlida.”

That’s rght, it’s in Spanish.

I bought this laptop here in Madrid, and didn’t have the option to have Windows in English. I remember now that some programs get confused because of the Spanish folder paths (I don’t know why the path isn’t showing as “Archivos de programa”). The route does exist, it is valid, but 3DCTV still can’t find it. I wonder if all this trouble is because of the Spanish language laptop! My other PC came from Ireland (Alienware) and has an English language installation of Windows, and does run 3DC9.

Ok, that’s very interesting. That’s something I can look at, and potentially fix, quickly.

When I execute 3DCTV standalone, it starts but then fails as soon I select a tutorial, with an error saying that the path to the tutorial is invalid. The thing is, the path does exist, but the error message is in Spanish. That’s because I bought the laptop, with the OS pre-installed, here in Spain. I wonder if the problems are because of the OS language. 3DC9 runs on my Windows 7 PC, but that OS is in English.

Sorry, I didn’t realise I’d actually succeeded in posting the previous reply ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m also looking at creating a new install that will “isolate” components that 3DCrafter needs. I think it’s likely to be the most reliable option.

I have a test version of the tutorial viewer here: amabilis.com/downloads/TutorialTest.zip
You’ll need to replace the file 3DCTV.exe with the one in the zip file. But don’t replace the 3DCTutorial9.ocx file unless you continue to receive an error from 3DCTV.exe.

The test program outputs to a log called “c:\tutorialviewertest.log”

I’m very curious!

Thanks! Here goes …

Executing this test version of 3DCTV.exe, without changing the ocx file, gives me this error:

“Error loading 3DCrafter Tutorial Viewer: ActiveX component can’t create object (429)” followed (after clicking on OK) by “Error loading 3DCrafter Tutorial Viewer: Object variable or With block variable not set (91)” (twice), followed by “Error loading 3DCrafter Tutorial Viewer: Path/File access error (75)”

I tried copying over the new test ocx file, and got the exact same errors.

I looked in C:\ but there was no log file to be seen ๐Ÿ™

I then executed it with admin privileges, and gave the same 429 and 91 errors, but did actually start, filling the drop down menu with the list of tutorials. But selecting one gave me the run-time error message about the path “C:\Program Files\Tutorials\….” being invalid. Still no logfile generated.

It must not be able to write to c:\ for some reason.

After replacing the OCX, did you not receive a message box? It should have been shown before the tutorial listing was shown.

It really seems like we are on the right track.

I’ll think some more.

Yes, there’s a message box saying “tutorial: C:\Program Files\3DCrafter9\Tutorials\a-Introducing 3DCrafter.ctu” and “Aceptar” (OK). After clicking on OK, the initial window with the tutorial listing appears. If I select a tutorial, that message box appears again (with the path of the selected tutorial), but this time when clicking OK, the run-time error, invalid path, is shown.

Another test: http://www.amabilis.com/downloads/TutorialTest.zip

This time youโ€™ll only need to replace the file 3DCTV.exe with the one in the zip file. There’s one new message shown. I query Windows for the location of your program files. It should be returned in Spanish.

That’s odd, it returns it in English … “C:\Program Files\3DCrafter 9”.

Something that puzzles me is how come my Spanish installation of Windows has C:Program Files and not C:\Archivos de programa. It must have got changed into English at some time. Other things (all the error messages and menus) are still in Spanish.

It works!! I noticed what you said about it not having permission to write to C:, so I tried disabling UAC (via msconfig.exe and rebooting the laptop), and that fixed the problem. So, it was all because of Vista and its UAC thingy. I should’ve thought of that before!

By the way, I was always executing 3DC as administrator, but it seems that UAC was still blocking it from doing something.

So… 3DCrafter works, or the test? I’m hoping you mean 3DCrafter. ๐Ÿ™‚
