713 Error followed by 91 error

Had 3D Crafter working on my external J-drive which I keep my 3D programs/work on. Was trying to use the Train options but they would not work regardless of what I did, tried installing the Paul Gausden plugin and activating with the Options-Tools-Misc but ended up getting the dreaded 91 error. Then tried installing on my C-drive, with installation/uninstalling both on the C & J drives by various methods – have installed and checked that the Install Service Pack 6 for Microsoft’s Visual Basic is in my Windows-System 32 folder.

Next installed both the 3DCrafter911B1264.msi and the 3DCrafter92.msi.

When I first ran the B1264 file I got a 713 error, any attempts to run 92 or B1264 after that keep getting the dreaded 91 error.

Any ideas ????? (Other than being superstitious and not doing anything on Friday the 13th)

I’ve tried installing 8.2, 9.1 and 9.2 on my 32-bit Vista laptop, and they all have the same error 713, with the splash screen saying “Initializing Properites Panel” (maybe “Properites” instead of “Properties” is the cause of the error?).

The error message is:

Run-time error ‘713’:
Class not registered.
Looking for object with
CLSID:{59245250-7A2F-11D0-9482-00A0C91110ED}

I looked in the registry, and that CLSID is a BindingCollection object.

This is what’s in 3DC.log:

The programs work on my 64-bit Win7 PC (except that they crash frequently, but that’s another topic)

This might help:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814707

It describes the exact error message I gave above!

“This problem occurs because the Component Object Model (COM) based MSBind.dll is unregistered when you remove Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005. Visual Basic 6.0 uses MSBind.dll to bind the control to the data source. Therefore, when you run a Visual Basic 6.0 project that has a data-bound control, you receive the run-time error message.

To resolve this problem, register MSBind.dll again. To do this, you can use the Regsvr32.exe tool or you can add the reference to your Visual Basic 6.0 project so that the DLL is registered automatically.”

Did this work for you? I mean, have you tried it?

I tried the Regsvr32.exe tool (opened a DOS window with Admin privileges, navigated to c;\windows\system32 and ran the command regsvr32 msbind.dll, which it said has executed successfully), but I still get the same error, It’s very strange, because I had an earlier build of 3DC8 (not the one on the downloads page) installed on this laptop, which worked fine. I uninstalled it before installing version 9. Now I wish I hadn’t. I’ll try to find that earlier version on a backup disc and see if I can still reinstall and run it. If I can, then maybe it’s a problem with the way currently downloadable ones have been built.

I forget to mention that if I go into regedit and search for the object that the error message says it can’t find, I can locate it! So I don’t understand why I’m still getting that error. I also rebooted the laptop, but that didn’t make any difference.

I uninstalled all versions again, then installed from a 3DCrafter.msi off a backup disk (the date on the file is 28/02/2011, which must be when I downloaded it), and it fails with the same error. I’m sure this one worked before, so this maybe this has something to do with a change to the registry that was made when installing 3DC9 yesterday. I’ll try restoring to an earlier point.

I don’t have any suitable restore points 🙁 So right now, I’m stuck.

I’ve successfully re-installed 3DCanvas 8.2 (Build 1506) from a backup of July 2010.

I then re-installed 3DCrafter 8 (from Feb 2011), but it still won’t start …. error 713 as usual.

This gives me an idea. I should be able to work on it Tuesday.

Excellent! I’m managing to do things in 3DCanvas8 while my son is playing on the other computer, and I’ve tried loading the models I’ve made into 3DCrafter 9.1.1 on that PC when he’s in bed, and it works. I must say that 9.1.1 is much easier to use, because of the flyout view selection. So I hope you can make it work on my Vista laptop.

3DC is dependent on a number of standard Windows dlls, and those controls are dependent on other Windows dlls. I’m thinking that maybe the problem is with the dependencies of the dependencies. That’s what I’m working on now. No luck so far.

Thanks for investigating, I do appreciate it. If there’s anything you want me to check on my computer, just let me know.

For now, I’m using 3DCanvas8 to make some parts of my model, and when I can get onto the PC, I copy them into 3DCrafter9. However, I can’t use my laptop with 3DCrafter8 to continue work on models I started on the PC with 3DC9.

There is a separate problem with 3DC (any version) on my 64-bit Windows 7 PC, which is that it crashes frequently. It’s always able to recover the model, next time I start 3DC, but the crashes are a nuisance. I suppose I should start a separate thread for that one.

I haven’t managed to reproduce it yet. But, I’m still trying. I’d really like this resolved.

Could you make a special debug version with extra output to the logfile (around where the error occurs)? I’d run it and that way give you more details to get closer to the point where it goes wrong.

That’s an idea. Also, I believe that msbind.dll is only used by the tutorial system. There’s a program already called 3DCTV.exe (3DCrafter Tutorial Viewer). If that fails, then we have narrowed it down massively.
