6.6.5.12 A couple of bugs that do not seem global

Maybe it would be a good idea to send me a sample scene, plus a screen capture showing me what I should select. Maybe it’ll be a problem on my system also. You can send the sample to <!– e –>’support@amabilis.com<!– e –>’.

6.6.5.12 seems very good and so far I have managed to do almost everything well, however I have a couple of chronic bugs that wont go away regardless of what I do or how many re-installations I make. Since I’ve not seen any reports of these bugs I assume they are not global but I’m at a loss what is the cause.

First problem I have is with texturing. Regardless of what texture file I select I cannot apply it to the model. I go to the material panel, select the primary texture and load it, Crop it to the details I wish to apply and select ok. I then go to the Object operation panel, highlight the faces I want textured, and apply the material with the application tool in the operations panel. The texture that gets pasted is [b:19p374fz]always[/b:19p374fz] the first texture listed in the texture library regardless of the cropped image in the circle in the material pallette. I’ve reset everything there is to reset and still get this problem.

Second problem is with the group selection tool. It works, but incredibly slowly. For a start it takes 15 seconds to exit the group selection tool and go to the component selection tool. I can also select a group of points, for example the bottom of a cube, and have to wait up to 30 seconds before they highlight and in some cases they never do highlight and I have to reboot 3DC.

The other selection tools work fine.

Can somebody please help or my 3DC days are over <!– s:-( –><!– s:-( –>

Thanks, Mike.

I have been texturing a lot with 6.6.5.12 and have yet to have that issue with textures. I wonder why?

However, I completely agree about group selection tool. It’s disturbingly S L O W on point selection. I too have had it not select points I expected it to and then… after a few re-tries have it totally lock up 3DC. (requires me to KILL the program TASK MANAGER to recover since waiting 5 minutes was fruitless)

I’d call that a bug and no longer a personal issue with my system now that I’m not the only one.

I have done over 30 objects with 6.6.5.xx and the only textures’s problem i have seen is the disappearing of a texture during the clone operation. Nothing else <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

The slowness with selection tool was one of the bug i have seen 1 month ago and from a version to another was mitigated but not solved.

I’ve been using these last days the group selection tool for points.
No problem for me; it doesn’t seem slow.
For this problem it is interesting to tell what video card / drver / configuration is used.
I have ATI X800XL / Catalyst 6.10 / no FSAA (because of the right clic menu problem on ATI cards w/ FSAA on).

I don’t have a texture selection problem. My current model has a texture library with 4 1024×1024 textures.

I just tried with FSAA on : same speed for group section tool (doesn’t seem slow).

The slowness looks video driver related. Once again, please give some information on your card / driver / configuration.
It’s important to see if you could try another driver version and it’s important to know which hardware / driver configuration is to be avoided with 3DC.
I know it might not be very useful but did you send a user report to your video card maker?

I think the speed of the group selection tool is dependent on the complexity of the model. There may be other factors, but that would be my guess.

[/div][/BLOCKQUOTE]The ‘normal’ slowness is present when a scene is made by many points and faces and when there is a selection of many many points at one time… until here is like the old 6.5.

The problem is a slowness that takes place even with few faces/points.
I have seen this behaviour:
if an object is alone there is no problem.
If the same object is under another and i want to select some points of that objects.. the program star to become slow.
More objects, one on another, more slowness.
This is valid with all the side vision.

DOM107 -andgt; For me isn’t a drivers problem. (it’s only an idea <!– s:) –><!– s:) –> )
From version 6.6.5.1 i’m doing controls with the task manager.
When i do a selection the cpu goes from 0 to 100% and stay at 100% for the time that goes from seconds to dozen of seconds..( i have seen that there isn’t kernel time during a selection..)
The same thing happen for the right click after a selection or when i have done a wrong selection and i want to do a new selection.
If it was a gpu problem.. why the cpu takes so much weight upon herself? <!– s:) –><!– s:) –> and why the same objects, the same selection takes only 1 second to 3 with the old 6.5.. <!– s;) –><!– s;) –> ?

For the record i have an Nvidia 7600 go 256mb ddr2 with modded driver 93.7

Bye Bye
Bremen

This is a problem that I can’t reproduce. Unfortunately, until I see it happen I can’t fix it. Yes, the group selection tool is slow with complicated scenes, but never seems to be a problem with simple scenes. At least for me. (unless many faces or points are selected by the tool)

It is possible it could be a video card problem. I have an GeForce 5900 which I heard was a problematic card and not on the market for long, although I never had problems with it except for 3DC.

The proof of the pudding should come in about 2 weeks when I will have dual GeForce 7800 cards on a SLI mobo running with Vista .. If I have problems with 3DC in that setup I dont know how Amamblis could troubleshoot it with the same arrangement?

I’ll keep you informed.

Mike.
