3DC825 – Butt Shapes Plug-In Crash (resolved)

Hi Richard,

Any session that seems to last a while that uses the "Butt Shapes" plug-in will eventually end with the error message in the screen shot… It doesn’t kill 3DC however you will not be able to use "Butt Shapes" again until you start and stop the programs… I typically use the plug-in with single shapes and sometimes with the shape in a group with say 5 or 6 other shapes… The error seems to occur after using "Butt Shapes" anywhere from 15 to 25 times… Once I close 3DC and start it again – "Butt Shapes" will work normally again… This has been a chronic issue through all the version 8’s that I have tested – so it is NOT new in 3DC825…

I have a thought on this one. I know of one limitation in scripting that I never expected could happen, but might just in practice.

Do you recall if this is exactly the same error you received in earlier 3DC 8’s? If not, then I might have an explanation.

Hi Richard,

Yes – same error with earlier versions of 8… Never had this problem in 7…

From looking at it, and trying to make it crash, I can’t imagine how it does. It looks rock-solid.

Hi Richard,

Not too big a deal – I usually get 15 to 20 runs of the plug-in – before the error comes up…

I’m just struggling to find a way to do this in some sort of sensible way, since I can’t seem to make it crash. I’d like to know the cause too. If it’s a "scripting" issue, then a fix might improve the reliablity of other plug-ins.

I tried this MANY times with no crash. I’m going to put this on the backburner. Can you let me know if it happens in 8.2.7, when it is released? Thanks.

Morn’n Richard,

Will do – I’ll try it out tonight – and – get back to you…

Scott

Hi Richard,

If you want to close this one – I’ll open a new one if the problem reoccurs – work has been cutting into my available modeling time and I haven’t been able to test it yet…

Scott
