3DC and Paper Models

Can you give the laymen around here a clue as to how you accomplished this …going from 3DC to paper….It’s really cool and I would love to try it with train-sim stuff.

I designed and built this aircraft in 3DC, and decided I was sick of just looking at it on my monitor. So I brought it to life as a paper model, directly from the 3DC output.

The model is exactly the same as the 3DC version in terms of geometry, and the flattened paper templates were generated from the 3DC model itself.

Hehehe, poor man’s stereolithography! I *love* 3DC <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

That page was just a convenient way to send a link once to my friends who wanted to see the model. It isn’t meant to be a for-real website or anything of the sort, so I didn’t care about being overly professional with that page.

Eventually I’m gonna take better pictures of that model anyway, and the new site isn’t gonna be such a bandwidth hog.

They look great!

You could do a lot to make your pages load faster though! Either you need to optimise your images for the web, or have thumnail images that people can click on to open the larger images!!

What an innovative way to use 3DC though!

Mel,
That’s a cool model, and I believe it’s a first as far as actually building a physical model from a 3DC model….. ;D

Outstanding!!!… ;D
