3D View screen freezes

I’d really like to use 3DCrafter, But the 3D view screen keeps freezing.

I have windows 7 x64, Version 9.1 b1095 of 3DCrafter, CAPICOM, and windows up to date, Let me know if you need additional info.

I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling many times and that doesn’t work either, Anything.

Thanks!

I have the same problem. <!– s:?: –><!– s:?: –>

With Win 7/64 version 9.xxx ia have freeze, but I have no problem with Version 8.xxx.
Bye

Sorry for the delay. If you have 3DCrafter 8 or higher, the first thing I’d recommend is to choose "Reset 3DCrafter Settings" from the Help menu, if you can get to it before 3DCrafter freezes.

Thank you for your answer. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
Only the 3D wiew screen keeps freezing.
The menu is always accessible and I can reset from Help menu , but the problem remains.
I have a recent new installation of WIN 7/64 bit and 3DC Crafter 9.1.1 just installed.
I confirm that I have no problem with version 8.xxx
The 3D wiew freezes, for example simply dragging the primitive cube over the bottom of the screen. Then I open the Properties window and the cube return in the center of the screen… <!– s:!: –><!– s:!: –> <!– s:?: –><!– s:?: –>
Thanks again.

This is one of the main reasons I’m likely to go back to version 7. In both 8 and 9 I have this issue and it’s bothersome to constantly reset my preferences back to what I want afterward.

If going from version 7 to 8/9 causes freezing then that is a bad thing of course. But, the ability to reset settings is actually a good thing. In version 7.2 if a registy entry became corrupted, the only solution was Regedit. As of 3DCrafter 8, this is done automatically when 3DCrafter has problems starting (with the user’s permission). And, if something seems wrong, the Help menu "Reset 3DCrafter Settings" can also be used.

Using Crafter 8.2.7 b 1134 with Win 7 64 bit. I’m getting the freeze in Perspective view quite often and sometimes in Ortho views. Reducing the screen resolution seems to extend the time between lockups I find. Due also to still having memory problems exporting to IGS files ( even using the new exporter in V 8.2.8 ), I have had to go back to an old system running Vista 32 bit, no problems exporting or freezing in that.

Maybe a graphics driver update will help?

How frequent are the freezes? Every hour, 10 minutes. Any guesses?

I have now a new graphic card (GTX 560) instead of the previous ATI HD5460.
The problem of freezes is gone. <!– s:D –><!– s:D –>
Ciao!

First thing I tried when the freezing first started a week or two back, but the latest drivers made no difference. It’s my laptop card, Geforce 310M. It seems to freeze completely randomly, sometimes after maybe 5 minutes of work but no longer, but mainly first thing as soon as you attempt to move the view. As I said the only thing that slowed it down was reducing the screen resolution, where reducing it from native 1600 x 900 to 1280 x 720 would allow you to work for maybe up to half an hour before freezing. I’ll stick with the 32 bit version for now, even though response times are a lot slower on the old system.

Freezing can sometimes be an indicator of a failing graphics chip. Do you run any other 3D software on this particular computer?

On my laptop I have Solidworks installed for work and have no problems with that, though I can’t import my 3D Crafter model into it. Got 3DS Max 2009 so installed that and imported my model into that . Had no problems with that either, even made 3 clones of the model and no problem displaying them all with 4 viewports open. Tested it for nearly an hour.

And, that answers that. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –> It’s a bug somewhere, not hardware.

Win 7 64 bit. I have been using the latest 8.2.8 Build 1144 since Saturday. I thought at first it had cured the viewport freezing but after a couple of hours use it started again. Restarted Crafter but got the freeze straight away trying to move the perpective view. Switched of the laptop for a couple of hours then restarted. Got the freeze straight away so uninstalled 3D Crafter and reinstalled. Worked fine again for a couple of hours then started freezing again when moving perspective, also got it when I used the Shape Duplicate op. Gone back to the old comp running 32 bit windows with Crafter running OK on that with the same model.
