X-Plane support

That was quick! <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

It’s not terribly sophisticated yet, only very simple static models work. – still lots to do to handle state changes and animations.

I’ve located an X Plane OBJ viewer which proves my OBJ files are inside out and the texture mapping is not right either!

I thought I’d try and get a few more users to test it for me:

Hi,
thank you very much – it is working, I attach picture.

If you want try with XPL:

Goto [img:2ke8sli8]http&#58;//www&#46;x-plane&#46;com/,[/img:2ke8sli8]
<!– m –><a class="postlink" href="http://www.x-plane.com/">http://www.x-plane.com/</a>&lt;!– m –>,

Download, Download the X-Plane demo, Windows v9.60 Demo, Installer 2.05 Windows
X-PlaneDemoInstallerWindows.zip

Create folder ‘X-Plane Install’ on Desktop (for example), and extract here ‘X-Plane Demo Installer Windows.exe’ from downloaded archive.

Run installer, accept agreement, press Continue.
Accept destination (‘X-Plane 9 Demo’ on Desktop) and press Continue.

Data are downloaded from internet (long time, on my connection 2 hours).

When you run X-Plane first time you will be on Insbruck airport (ICAO code LOWI).
Only Insbruck area is available in demo.

Download and install OverlayEditor ( [img:2ke8sli8]http&#58;//marginal&#46;org&#46;uk/x-planescenery/tools&#46;html[/img:2ke8sli8]
<!– m –><a class="postlink" href="http://marginal.org.uk/x-planescenery/tools.html">http://marginal.org.uk/x-planescenery/tools.html</a>&lt;!– m –>
)

Run OverlayEditor, select your X-Plane location on first run.

Click ‘New Scenery Package’, name ‘Airport-LOIR’ (Reutte Hoefen ‘LOIR’ is small airport near Insbruck).
Close OverlayEditor for now.

Automatically was created ‘Airport-LOIR’ directory in ‘Custom Scenery’ subfolder of X-Plane installation.

In Explorer go into ‘CustomScenery/Airport-LOIR’ directory.
Create new folder ‘Objects’.
Now place into this folder place your OBJ and texture files, you can insert here more objects.

Run OverlayEditor again.
Click ‘Open Scenery Package’, select ‘Airport-LOIR’, OK.

Select ‘GoTo Airport’ and choose LOIR (right list), OK.
Detailed terrain is loaded.

Zoom (+/- key) to grass runway.

Select your object on right side (Objects section).
Place it with INSERT KEY to scenery (somewhere near to center of runway).
Red point on display is your cursor/current position,
You can rotate inserted object with Q,E, move with mouse etc.

Select ‘Save scenery package’ and exit Overlay Editor.

Run X-Plane.

In menu ‘Location/Select Global Airport’, enter text ‘Reutte’, LOIR is selected, choose ‘Ramp Start Default’.
Aircraft will be located to center of runway. With A key you choose external view
and with arrows and +/- you can see your objects in detail.

Thank you again,
Leos

Hello again,
[img:34mp9ohk]http&#58;//oko&#46;clever&#46;cz/%7Eleos/Airport-LOIR&#46;zip[/img:34mp9ohk]
Here
is archive ‘Airport-LOIR.zip’. You can extract this archive to CustomScenery folder of XPLANE. Then you can only replace OBJ and texture file in Objects subfolder and you don’t need to use Overlay Editor.

Thanks,
Leos

I was learning all of this while you were posting here <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Try the download link in my previous post for an updated model.

Excellent. Thank you very much for your work.

Two tips (maybe you know it):

In XPL menu set in ‘Settings’ / ‘Rendering Options’ item ‘Texture resolution’ to ‘Extreme rest’ and restart XPL for nice textures.

For free movement in external view set ‘View/View is free camera’ and then:
Left Arrow .. move left
Right Arrow .. move right
Up Arrow .. move up
Down Arrow .. move down
PgUp .. move forward
PgDn .. move backward
Right mouse click + move .. look around, change look, rotate
(with shift fast move)

Thanks again.
Leos

Thanks for the tips – I’m still learning. It is quite different to FSX.

I’ll try and improve the exporter a bit more today but I don’t have any time at the weekend to work on it (decorating the house)
I’ll see how far I get today and try and get an early version of the plugin out later.

Ok, I will study 3DC because I am still beginner and will wait for release.
Thanks.
Leos

Are all the 8.2 b1520 plug-ins (w/ updated material manager) still being decorated too? <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –> <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Leos – Which version of 3DC Pro are you using and do you have XP or Vista/7?

I have a version of the exporter for 3DC 7.1.2 which is quite basic.

It will export all non-animated object in the group hierarchy under the selected object.
One OBJ file will be exported for each texture file used.
No LOD and Automatic LODs option work, Custom LODs do not.
It is recommended you convert textures to DDS for use in X-Plane – the exporter options allow you to change the texture name in the output file.
State changes and more advanced features are not supported yet.

If you have Vista or Win7 you will need to register the DLL in the PluginsImportExport folder of 3DC before it is visible under the File-andgt;Export menu.

On my notebook I have 3DC Pro 8.2 build 1506 and Win7Pro x64 OS.

As admin I extracted XPLANEOBJ8.dll to ‘c:Program Files (x86)3DC 8PluginImportExport’.

Then run:
regsvr32 ‘c:Program Files (x86)3DC 8PluginsImportExportXPLANEOBJ8.dll’
Succeed.

And after run 3DC I don’t see XPL plugin in File/Export <!– s:( –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!– s:( –>

I tried restart notebook but result is the same.

If helps:
In Tools/Options/Plugins and ImportExport no record for new DLL.

Maybe problem with 64bit OS?
Thank you.

May be you installed the plugin for 3DC 8.2 b1520. So it won’t work for 8.2 b1506.

Btw, do you have a notebook with Atom processor?
And it runs OK w/ 3DC under Win7Pro x64 OS?

I wrote ‘My NOTEbook’, not NETbook, I have Intel Core2Duo processor. I am using 3DC rarely (probably now with XPL plugin this will changed) but what I tested for now (only easy things) everything is working.

Plug version:

I had plugins with original (last available) installation from Amabilis site (1506).

Now downloaded Plugins Pack for 8.2x and installed but result is the same – no XPL plugin visible.

Later added:
Ooops – I see it on Paul description:
XPlane OBJ8 for 7.1.2
So I am with version 8 probably out <!– s:( –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!– s:( –>

I will try and get a test version for 8.2 ready some time today.
