Unwraping an extruded cylinder…

Thanks Paul !!!

Yeah – with my first model – I had your tutorial – in hand – every step of the way…

I really think I need to go back and consult it more often…

I pulled an ‘all-nighter’ on this issue… I just hate not knowing how to do something…

I’ll give it another read…

So where are you up to now, are you still stuck getting the texture onto the other side of the boiler?

I did this just using the fill tool and the texture at the bottom left, probably not what you are looking for.

Hi Bazza,

Thanks for your help !!!

Honestly – the only thing that really had me concerned about the flood fill – was I plan on using 1024×1024 textures – and – hand drawing a fairly substantial amount of detail into the texture… It just seems that I would have a hard time getting pipe thicknesses and runs positioned correctly… That might not be then case – but – I’m a beginner…

To texture the other half – mapped to the same area of the texture – I hand mirrored each and every point to line up with the lines from the first half unwrap… Very tedious… Spent most of last night doing it… Then went back and jockeyed the textures around with that UV – Remap tool…

We don’t have any tools in 3DC to perform that mirror operation automatically ??? I tried everything I could think of – even the flip image on the paint pallet… No luck…

I guess I’m good now – as I have a reasonably distortion free unwrap… I repeated the process for the smokebox…

I hope I didn’t waste too much of your time looking into this… But really – it wasn’t easy…

I’m sure I’ll have an other question before long…

Thanks,
