THANKS Bazza!!!

That did the trick… It moved just like you said it would – without distortion – while keeping my polys reasonable… Sorry I was a little slow at picking it up…

I just want to thank [span class=’ev_code_RED’]everyone[/span] again for all the help I have gotten here… I have learned alot from this thread and it is greatly appreciated…

I really have been enjoying myself with 3DC and this just reinforces the fact I picked the right modeling software…

(1) Cow Catcher ===andgt; DONE…

OBTW – now it is tonight here… LOL…

Hi Scott,
Pleased you got it sorted. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Your loco looks good….from the front anyway. I just love US locomotives, full of character, just like ours used to be.

Just one point…the big square thingie right at the front, is this going to be the coupler?
There looks to be a lot of polys.

Bazza

Hi…

Well – The least I can do – for all this valuable help – is post a screenshot… This is my first 3D Model – with the exception of the whale <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –> – so it is taking me a while…

I am working off plans from a 40 year old Model Railroader… Kind of a kick seeing this thing leap off the pages…

So far the poly count is not too bad… About 7100… I have an absolute MAX set of about 8500… I have not really done a dedicated ‘trim’ of the model yet…

Yes – that is supposed to be the coupler… LOL… I planned on revisiting that at some point… I did that quick and dirty… Ideas are always welcome… <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

I want to redo the cab roof – to give it some thickness… I need to try and add some piping – not sure how poly intensive that task will be.. Still need a final dertailing and to clean up a few things…

Then – on to texturing… Gulp… Never did this part before… Wrap – unwrap – gotta figure all those mapping issues out…

You are so right about the character part… You won’t catch me doing anything much newer than the 1950’s or so…Early steam to 1rst generation diesels is about it… Seems like steam gets more attention outside the US… Can’t figure that one out… <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –> The transition from steam to diesels has always been my favorite…

Thanks again… I’m sure I’ll be back with more questions… <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Regards,
Scott

Looks fantastic. Great stuff. <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>

Sorry, I meant there looked to be a lot of polys on the coupler.

It might be a good idea to have a super detailed version as well, just for screenshots etc and you wouldn’t have to worry about the poly count. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

No need to worry about the texturing it just takes a bit of practice, after a while you end up with a good collection of textures you can use over and over again. Just like 3D model parts.

Anyway here’s a pic from the attic of my HO scale Port Daniel and Alice Town Railroad, guess what…NO STEAM. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
Kits are to expensive in the UK so I have to make all the buildings from card stock, still…it keeps me busy.
I was inspired by a rairoad I saw in Model Railroader, I think it was called The South Manchester and something?
but I can’t remember who built it, no doubt you will know.

Keep up the good work.

Bazza

Bazza,

Very kewl Model Railroad and nice pictures too… Pretty incredible that those buildings are made from card stock…

Scott

Scott… would I lie about how cool 3DC is? <!– s;-) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";-)" title="Wink" /><!– s;-) –>

I believe that you mean Franklin and South Manchester, by George Selios, Peabody Massachusetts. His work was actually inspired by John Allen’s Gorre and Dafetid.
