Rail Simulator Exports Available

Can somebody confirm that I understand how to use shaders correctly:-

I load a texture into the material paletteprimary texture slot and then type in the shader (eg BlendTexDiff) into the custom fields railsimlulator slot. Paint the model and then export the .igs file.

Am I correct in this?

Cheers,
Kevin

Kevin,

I believe that is correct.

Bremen,

I’ve thought the same thing actually. On my list.

Sorry,I missed that one.

Oh… I forgot to mention… the 24 groups limitation is with Rail Simulator, not 3DC. [/div][/BLOCKQUOTE]
I just tried to make an export of my model ‘as is’… I have more than 30 groups.
This limitation is annoying.

Is it a limitation of the number of groups next to the root or the total number of groups (it would be stupid)?
I might know soon as I am first going to limit the number of ‘root’ groups.

I think it is the number of groups within a group.

I’ve been working on the ‘LOD’ export. I actually have LODs working in the current export, but I used the LOD format that is in the specifications of the IGS format. Unfortunately, these LODs aren’t used by Rail Simulator, so I have to re-design.

I’m not sure how much effort is required in the re-design. Hopefully not too much.

Bremen,

Both of your requests will be in the next release of the exporter.

Thank you <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Hello,

1) I have the following messages:
1a) ‘Groups must contain at least one object to export correctly.’
My groups have objects: there cannot be empty hierarchies in 3DC.

1b) ‘This export may be invalid due to a group exceeding the maximum number (24) of child groups.’
I don’t count more than 24 groups.

2) I have some bmp texture files and one ACE file build with tgatools2 (for transparency in 3DC). When converting the ACE file to DXT3 with the KRS ACE tool, I get another ACE file with a different format. Is this correct?

Your Group34 has no associated object.

The 24 group limit can be got around by moving all unanimated parts into the same group.

The group hierarchy is only needed in KRS by animations.

I’ll check how I calculate the 24 group maximum. It may well be a bug.

Yes, the ace files for Rail Simulator are a different format. ToAce is provided with the tools. It converts to either the old ACE format or the new ACE format.

Thanks… good sight!

OK. I try to keep groups in 3DC to move objects easily.

It will be very helpful in order to know what to check on such error what exporting for KRS.

And my tgatool TGA can be converted as it is?
Today what is the best tool to create ACE files for texture + alpha and use in 3DC / KRS export?

I changed that but I still have the error.

Is it possible to include in the export program the display (may be in the log file) of the first group which doesn’t comply with the rule ‘A group must contain at least one object to export correctly.’?

It would be interesting to have:
1) a plugin that [b:1ihawjf9]adds for a hierarchy a KRS texture name[/b:1ihawjf9] (for example ‘TrainBumpSpecEnvMask’). I would take then less time to change the object with the wrong shader than doing one object at a time.

2) [b:1ihawjf9]Replace[/b:1ihawjf9] througout a hierarchy one shader by another one (for example, TrainBumpSpecEnvMask by TrainBasicObjectDiffuse).

I am using a simplified version of the model.
When I change the hierarchy like this:
[img:1m585rll]http&#58;//img66&#46;imageshack&#46;us/my&#46;php?image=image8nb5&#46;jpg[/img:1m585rll]

The message ‘Groups must contain at least one object to export correctly.’ disappeared.

But I still have the message:
‘This export may be invalid due to a group exceeding the maximum number (24) of child groups.’
