First, the ilegal face problem….
The faces you create on a model by extruding, dividing ect. MUST have either 4 or 3 edges.
Thats the rules, and this is why your model didn’t load into Tranz with the hole visible.
Not only that but if you have ‘illegal’ faces, sometimes known as Ngons, the lights in either 3DC or your game engine won’t shade the faces correctly.
So you will have to re-build the offending walls on your model.

Hi Bazza,
Need more help here on this illegal face thing.
I’m extruding most everything I build, now, (I’m rather proud of myself, btw.), but these illegal faces pop up on every model I build.
How are they avoided???
How do you fix ’em???
How do you make ’em go away???

Here’s a shot of my adobe dwelling with these faces on them.
I extruded, negitively, the door and window then got them.

Hi Rick,
Without seeing the 3DC file it’s hard to say how they occured but I see you have used the chamfer operation. This can sometimes create the illegal face(s), depending how it’s used.
If you started out with a cube layed out with legal faces then I would say it’s the chamfer op that caused it.

To correct it you will need to divide an edge somewhere to give you some extra points, then use the Edge op to create extra edges till you end up with either 3 or four sided faces.

It can have a knock on effect though, as you correct one face, it’s easy to create another illegal face. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

If you would like to send me the model I’ll take a look.

He he, the whole thing wouldn’t show up in the game so I deleted it to start over again. Unfortunately, I spent hours on it ‘cleaning’ it up deleting all unused points and ‘lines’ which apparently caused a catastrophe to the game.
The sunken roof and the door and window wouldn’t show.
It did look good in 3DC, though.

This is quite a challenge trying to keep the poly count down and have the model show up in the game at the same time.

I’ve just built the front wall with the sunken window and door that does show up in the game but with a poly count of 440… for one wall!
Not sure what to do.

Thanks Bazza,

I could build a city with 440 polys <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>, well nearly.
If you would like to send me your wall I’ll take a look, also there are better ways of creating round corners on buildings than using the chamfer operation.
