Problem Creating Custom LOD’s

Unfortunately the hierarchy viewer only works with LOD 0.

Generally, it takes more than one texture to cause more than one primitive in a group – 3DC tends to force similar textures in a group to have the same properties.

If you are still having trouble, just send me the S file by itself and I’ll let you know what the problem is.

Greetings,

I am having some difficulty when it comes to creating custom LOD’s for MSTS. First, I am curious if moving an object in a particular LOD will cause odd effects in the model when exported? I am not moving the objects center axis, but using the select face button to move only the face slightly.

I am setting up the LOD’s as follows:
Main
Main.30
Main.60
Main.120
Main.240

I do not have any problems with Main, Main.30 and Main.60; but when Main.120 displays (using shape file viewer), I get several objects that scatter all over the place, as well as some strange effects. My object count remains the same, as well as all the names and groupings from beginning to end.

Any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong? If needed, I can provide a picture of what I am talking about.

Thank you!

Mykel – you need to make sure you have not removed a ‘primitive’ from a group in one of the LOD’s.

If you use the Shape Viewer 1.6 hierarchy viewer, primitives appear like objects in 3DC (brown or orange boxes)
These are caused when you have more than one material used by objects in a group.

Selecting the primitives on the hierarchy viewer highlights them in shape viewer which will help you identify the 3DC objects affected.

OK, I have rebuilt my LOD’s again starting with the base model and still I get the same problem. When viewing the car in SV 1.6, going from Main.60 to Main.120, the objects get scattered or moved from the original position. I have made sure that the objects/primatives, groups all remain the same. All center of axis remain the same. I have divided up my texture mapping and groups so that textures to groups remains consistant through out.

Also, for me atleast, when viewing LOD’s in SV, when clicking on an object, it is not highlighted in SV other than the top LOD setting. Is this suppose to work for each LOD setting?

When you say ‘more than one material used by objects in a group’, are you only referring to same TEXTURE? or does each object in a group have to correspond to the EXACT same mapping on a particular texture?

Mykel
