The real McCoy

Well, here’s my 3DC locomotives.
I’m stuck and haven’t been able to figure how to animate the drive shafts. Haven’t been able to find any tutorials on horizontal ‘in-line’ animations;

Vertical Boiler Shay loco CN #60, circa 1860.

‘T’ Boiler Shay loco CN #104, circa 1884.

A process I need to settle down to and figure out and learn.

Well I have been getting used to 3Dc, these are a couple railworks wagons I have waiting to release.

Holy smokes, BigPeter! You’ve got a bit of talent yourself. Those look pretty good to me. I love your detail…

I should add that thanks to one our team, the hoses and sidechains all connect when you couple up another wagon.

Rick I think that 3ft gear of yours may actually go fine on our 3ft 6in track. is only 3 inches each side after all.

I’ve been remaking my very very first model from 2002 using my improved skills acquired since then. It’s coming out much nicer than my original MSTS release.

Very nice indeed. Maybe we should setup a library of parts, so that we can exchange bits. Those bogies look great, do they come in a 3ft 6in gauge?

The bogey model is mine… the texture is from a parts library uploaded to Train-SIM.com ( John Mosbarger)

I’ve always felt parts sharing makes sense. Just not sure How to do it.

One way of sharing parts is to create a new object library (by selecting open and putting in a file n
ame that doesn’t exist)

Select group or hierarchy of objects, then right click-andgt; add object to library.

The CLO files are quite simple to import.

I’m starting to get motivated to finish mine… This has been sitting idle for about a year now… I really need to get it done… 3DC does such a nice job with trains…

@ Raul…. welcome back, nice work, interesting choice of models.

@Scott…What can I say, a really stunning piece of work,super,super job. <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>
What needs to be done to finish it, is it just texture work.

Bazza

Hi Bazza,

Thanks – you helped me a great deal with it – greatly appreciate the assistance… Yeah – burned myself out a while back – starting to catch my second wind… Pretty much – just texture work – a few small areas – feedwater pumps – hatch on cab – water filler on tender – a few pieces of the running gear… I was going to try and add some water stains – also – I’ve seen a heavy residue of white ash on the drivers in various pictures – some of that stuff… Then just a few poly trims – and – LOD’s… Package and upload… If I really focus – it’s not much work… I know you don’t use MSTS anymore – but – Bill Hobbs did the hand fired physics and it’s a blast to run…

Hmmm – just started messing around with 3DC8 building the largest Consolidation the US ever ran… Finish the first one – I know – I know… I like modeling – it’s the textures that are the chore…

Hi

I am still relatively new to the more advanced features of 3DC but here are a couple of models I have recently made for RailWorks –

[img:30rsk4k3]http&#58;//www&#46;atomic-album&#46;com/showPic&#46;php/31582/Wagon222&#46;jpg[/img:30rsk4k3]

This wagon uses a second invisible skin on each side so that the lettering can wrap over the metalwork on the wagon.

Hi Geoff,

Nice work – plenty of bolt heads… Only suggestion I can come up with is to add a little diefinition to the coal load… Fracture that face and make some lumps and bumps… Keep up the good work…

Regards,
Scott
