Hi All,
I can’t seem to get the animation to work in 9.22 – I’m pretty familiar with using it in older versions – ever time I select the animation camera – then try moving it via the normal control axis – it just stutters then freezes – crashing 3DC… Anyone else have this issue or a fix ???

Scott

Scott,
I’m running Win 7 x64 also. I haven’t used the animation camera in quite a while, but just tried it now after reading your post. I had the same results you did. Freeze, Runtime error ‘0’, Crash and then had to terminate the process in Task Manager. I tried fooling with compatibility mode, upgraded my video driver and ran as administrator – same results. I think 3DCrafter is entering senility.
I wonder why the developer of 3DCrafter hasn’t said a word on here since last July?!?!?!

Hi Andrew,
Really – thanks for taking the time to look… Yeah – I’ve been a huge hardcore fan of 3DC since version 6 – however – my biggest gripe has always been getting support… I’d see many posts from customers go unanswered – and really – the volume of posts around here was never unmanageable… Richard seems to come and go in spurts – but – since last July is a real long time not to post… I tripped sending Richard an email a few weeks ago – no response yet…
Thanks for confirming its not just me… We’ll probably have to wait until he returns… Without the animation camera – you can’t set up a scene for export to POVray or even take a snapshot…

Scott

Well, 9.2.2 came out in July 2012. Richard’s last post seems to have been in August.
I installed Windows XP Mode on my Win 7 machine. Maybe 3DC 9.2.2 will work better there. If I can locate my latest setup and plugin files, I’ll install them in XP Mode and see what happens. I’ll report back here…

Nope. XP Mode gave me the dreaded Error # 91. Even after upgrading the VB6 Runtime… 🙁

Hi Andrew,
Thanks again… I think the most stable version we ever had was 7.1.2… It’s tough though – you start getting used to some of the new features – it makes it really hard to roll back to an older version… I’ve tried GMAX and SketchUp but I haven’t been able to get motivated to use them… This really is the modeling software I enjoy using most – I just wish we could get a stable version…
What do you model – MSTS ?? I’ve made a few steam locomotives – thanks to all of Paul’s plug-ins… Now I’m trying my hand at building my home airport for MSFS….
Have a good one…
I really don’t like this forum software – LOL – maybe I’m just getting old…
🙂

Scott

Scott,
Yeah, this forum software leaves a lot to be desired, I’ll agree.
3DC has such an intuitive interface. If Richard could get a more modern and stable back end, 3DC would be giving the more recent modeling programs some competition. Paul’s plug-ins are fantastic too.
I’ve been creating some simple models for Auran (N3V) Trainz. No rolling stock or locomotives yet – just some static scenery like buildings and signs.
I’ve been teaching myself Blender during this long weekend. Its’ not too bad once you get the hang of it. It’s going to be tough to switch though. What is going to take me a week in Blender, I could do in 3 hours with 3DC.

Hi Andrew,
Yeah – I loaded Blender a few months ago – might have to take another look – it seemed pretty complex abnd not very intuitive… Maybe I’ll have to give it another look…
I sent Richard an email on the animation camera – my fingers are crossed…
🙂

Morn’n Folks,
If anyone is interested – I have a work around – the “Animation Camera” seems to work if you run 3DC in “Windows XP Compatability Mode”…

Scott,
From the Properties on the 3DCrafter exe file? I tried that a while ago and again just now. From XP Service Pack 3 all the way down to Windows 98 Compatibility Modes. I got the Run Time Error “0” every time! 🙁

Hi Andrew,
Sorry – maybe I spoke too soon… I know I had it working – let me look more closely – maybe it’s something else – I’ll get back to you…
I’ve also got it loaded on two different machines – my home desktop and my mobile laptop – both run Win7 x64 though… Could be adding to my confusion…

Scott

Hi Andrew,
I got it working at home now… I did a fresh install of 9.22 – loaded Paul’s tools – and – the extra pack… Started 3DC with a new scene and tried the animation camera which failed… I selected XP Service Pack 3 Compatability Mode – and selected Run as Administrator… Now 3DC crashed on startup – tried to start several times with the same result… Went back in and disabled both XP Compatibility mode and Run as Administrator… Started 3DC without errors – and – now the animation camera works… Strange…

Scott

Great news! I hope it remains working for you. I guess you didn’t hear from Richard, eh? I posted a query about Richard on Paul’s own bulletin board over a month ago, but no response either.
I’m fairly along with teaching myself Blender and having fun while doing it. It is a pretty steep learning curve compared to 3DC, but at least Blender hasn’t crashed on me yet.

Wahoo! – worked for me too 🙂 I’ve had that problem for ages.
Changed to XP compat mode and run as admin – worked (with no error)
changed back and it still worked 🙂
