Win2K Reboot with 3DC 5

If the 3DC install is attempting to install an older file then you should keep the newer file already on your system.

Richard

I have seen the posts (and have the trouble) with 3DC rebooting Win2K/XP. andnbsp; With 3DC Pro 4.23, i would right-click on an object, click andquot;Propertiesandquot; and the PC would immediately reboot. andnbsp;NOW… i un-installed 3DC 4.23 COMPLETELY (even deleted the 3DC directory), and installed 3DC 5. andnbsp;Well, with 3DC 5, i can right click on an object, click andquot;Propertiesandquot;, and the Properties screen now opens! andnbsp;I can move the object in the little window, change values, etc., but when i click andquot;OKandquot; or andquot;Cancelandquot;, the window disappears, THEN the PC reboots! andnbsp; This is with a GeForce3 Ti200 video card, and the nVidia 22.50 drivers. andnbsp;I know i can use older drivers and get it to work, but that robs quite a bit of features and performance from my vid card. andnbsp;I am kind of curious as to why the reboot pointed can be moved, but not be eliminated!

Ok, my situation just got a lot worse – turns out nVidia drivers before 21.81 do NOT support the GeForce3 Ti200!! andnbsp;I tried an older driver, and the highest resolution i could get was 800X600 at 16 colors!! andnbsp; So, i’m sorta screwed…

Richard,

I’ll double-check the MS site in a bit. Trouble for me is that the driver that is helping everyone else pre-dates my video card! I will check in on that. I have tried a few things tonight, including adding another 256MB RAM (total 512) and an AGP fix for the Athlons, but now i can’t even get 3DC to open a file! I will try un-installing and re-installing. One question – when i am prompted that a file being copied is not newer than the one i have, what should i choose there? I usually keep the newer, but i’m beginning to wonder if i should try what comes with 3DC.
In the meantime, i have a 30GB HD doing nothing, i may just set that up as a Win98 drive and just swap ’em.
Thanks for the help!

Does Windows 2000 have a set of drivers available for your card through Windows Update?

Part of the problem is that I can’t reproduce this problem. Perhaps there is something simple that 3DC could do differently to work-around this. I’ll have to look at it for 5.0a. The best solution would be NVIDIA fixing their drivers, and hopefully they will. But of course I have to do whatever I can since I can’t be certain they will bother fixing a bug that shows up with a relatively low volume shareware program.
