new web site

Thanks, too for being kind enough to provide forums related to desktop 3D printing. So, far, yours are the FIRST and ONLY forums that I know about to focus on ALL the low-cost 3D printing options… from home-built to commercial entries.

pirate has a new web site with lots of tutorials for 3DC,darkbasic pro,photoshop,3ds max, maya and a host of other will also have places to sell your games and models or just give them have to join the forum to place your links then i will copy them to the main site on the game development page.. its not 100% complete but i think its good enough to does have a forum that you can join..its brand new with just welcome would be cool if all of you join..give me some feedback please…thanks, pirate

Your site looks nice, Pirate, you have put a lot of work and thought into it! ^_^

A comment about the forum – even if you want to have a private forum, it is helpful to have a portion of it open to all viewers – then they can get an idea of whether they want to join. I think people are a little wary of joining anything sight-unseen (most bulletin board software allows you to set up which of your forums will be private and which will be public) ^_^

I see you’ve put up a lot of links – a helpful site, I also look forward to seeing it as you develop it further <!– s:D –><!– s:D –>

thank you butterpaw,
i have been working trying to get the permissions set up..maybe this afternoon i will have it fixed..

butterpaw when you get time check out site and check to see if the forum is working properly now..i appreciate it..

The forum looks very nice now.. it can be viewed ^_^ .. nice and dark and dramatic, the black and green.

thanks a lot butterpaw, if you know of anything i could do better let me know…you are welcome to join up if you want to…

maybe someone could give me some more feedback on my would really help to get someone elses opinion…

Not sure what king of feedback you want.
What you have at the moment is a ‘ bare bones’ site which you need to develop along the lines you want.

There are many, many sites along these same lines on the net, and I think you are maybe going to find it hard going to get a site together that equals some of these sites for content.

If you want visitors to bookmark your site I think it needs to be a bit different, maybe specialising in certain aspects of 3D modelling, rather than just making it a clone of the other 3D modelling sites.

Two very good examples of this would be…..

Psionic’s 3D Game Resources site…
<!– m –><!– m –>

And Pauls, Decapods Train Simulator Projects site…
<!– m –><!– m –>

Both deal with 3D modeling but are completly different.

Psionic’s site, while it covers quite a wide range of subjects, tends to attract anyone interested in the building of models and texture creation etc.
You only need to browse the gallery on this site to see how good Psionic is with his artwork, and the forums are a great help to anyone wanting to improve their modeling and texture work.
His tutorial section has improved my artwork immensly.
His Free Stuff section is filled with quality stuff, 90% of it his own work, animated figures are supplied in a variety of file formats.
His competitions attract a great deal of attention.

Paul’s site is likewise filled with loads of goodies.
The work he has put in with the 3DC plugins, would, on their own be enough to attract many visitors.
Add to that the MSTS and Trainz download sections and you have another VERY interesting site.
I’m almost tempted to purchase Trainz. <!– s:D –><!– s:D –>
There’s a good forum where help and advice is available, plus all the other bits and pieces.

The point being, both of these sites have specialised in certain areas of 3D modelling and therfore attract a large following.

Thats why they are on my favorites, whilst all the other general 3D modeling sites aren’t. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Needles to say, you’ve also got to be good at what your producing for the site.
A plugin that don’t work or a crap piece of animation won’t keep visitors coming back. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Also, both of these sites have been developed over the years into what they are now, your just starting out, so things can only get better.

These are just some of my ramblings on web sites, if I were you I would try to find a niche WITHIN the 3D modeling world, but thats just my opinion.

i appreciate your feedback bazza, the kind of sight i was trying for is on the lines of..helping beginners for the most part..sometimes its hard to google twenty different sites to try to find a tutorial on what you are working on at the time..its about helping someone make a game and have a place to put their link to sell it without having to pay..i will take some of your ideas and try to incorporate them in..

Hi Pirate,
I sent you a private message with some hints and suggestions for your site, which I hope might prove useful to you. ^_^

I’ll try to register for your forum on the weekend, although I may not have much time to contribute, I will try <!– s;-) –><!– s;-) –>

thanks butterpaw, i appreciate all your week i’m going to get it cleaned up and organized better..i might cut out some of the topics because of the workload of trying to upkeep it..this is my first web site so i’m very glad to hear the sugestions of you and bazza..i’ll keep trying till i get it right..pirate

been working on rebuilding the site..adding pages for the tutorials, changing the colors, removing the music and that annoying mouse trailer..should be completed in a few days…

Looking forward to seeing what you do.. I’m sure it’s going to be a cool (and helpful) site ^_^

and remember also, that the forum may take a while to build up. I have never run a public forum, but people I know who do, have taken quite a long time to build up an active following… so don’t be discouraged if it takes a while to get rolling <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

thanks butterpaw,
i know its going to take a while. i’m just doing it to try to help people find help. i think your going to like the new one..lots of pages of tutorials each program with its own tutorial page…pirate
