Export to Trainz

Hi Paul,
Tr06 now uses .im files and LODs. The .pm files are now ‘old hat’ I am not sure if thats a help or a hinder. Also, importing content i.e. new assets is strictly controlled by the new C.M.P. and C.C.P. which means the files are no longer readily accessible and need to be opened for edit via C.M.P.I am having some strife with this as it is all high tech – for me anyway. The battle continues on to the next saga.

Hi,
I am presently modelling an electric loco in 3DC pro and wish to export it into tr06 using the Trainz export plug-in. Before I can do this, I must specify ‘attachment points’ on the loco body for the bogies, pantograph and cab.Can anyone please explain to me how to do this, or is there a tutorial available on this subject? <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

If you have built the model according to the structure for MSTS

e.g.as a whole model with Bogie1 and Bogie2

the bogie attachments are created automatically.

The TRS attachment plugin can be used to add other attachment points – basically the point is the axis of any group whos name starts with ‘a.’
These should all be under the main group.

E-mail me direct if you need help and I’ll try and explain in more detail.

Thankyou Paul for your response. The model was in fact imported from TSM .dst file, so the bogies are already there in the hierarchy. I am wondering about the pantograph though, as I read somewhere that the pantograph animation export does not work as yet. I am hoping to make use of a default Trainz panto if this is the case. Still battling with the retexturing of the model, but I will keep you posted.

If that is the case then take a look at the timex.htm file in the plugins folder. That explains the process of exporting a loco.

Paul, you are a genius. Now I am beginning to get somewhere.

The only problem with electrics is the pantographs.

With TRS2004 it had to be a .pm file which I can’t produce (yet). Not sure if they fixed this for 2006.

Once you get the hang of exporting groups to TRS, it’s not too difficult, just time consuming.
