I'm having difficulty getting any shading on objects such as crates (a basic cube) when used with Blitz3D.
I've tried creasing the cube which gives a slight improvement, but the results are still not as sharp as when I create a cube whith Blitz3D and use this.
I can get by using this method for the odd object but I need to build a group of multiple crates etc
I don't get this problem with cyliders or cones, just cubes.
 Can anyone offer any suggestions?

                  Thanks Bazza

hi Smile,

since I don't get any strange effect with Canvas cubes when loading them in Exploration or Darkbasic or 3D RAD, I would guess it's a Blitz issue ???.

Or may be I simply don't get the problem. Could you post a picture showing the difference among Canvas and Blitz shading ?

bye, Alex

Thanks for showing some interest. the picture probably explains the problem better.
Both cubes are lit by the same point light, the one on the left is 3DCanvas,the one on the right created with Blitz3d. I,v tried dividing a 3DCanvas cube and again this gives a slight improvement.

  Thanks

A guess - as I have not got 3dc or blitz on this machine yet... when you create/texture the cube in 3dc are you using any ambient setting - might make it "glow" a bit in blitz which could alter the shadow ?

I've re-textured the cube with ambient setting at zero but still get the same results.

                   Thanks anyway

I have now managed to partly solve the poblem thanks to a posting on one of the Blitz sites.    If you use the entityfx command set to flat shading this solves the problem with models made up with just cubes. the other reply I received was to split the surfaces in 3DC before exporting the model. I havn't tried this yet but will post the results

Sorry I know this is an old topic, but I think I have the solution for this problem because it works for me.

Before exporting the model (I generally use X-visual), remove all lights possible from the scene, this cause everything to look dark. Then export the model. The only light that should affect the model will be from the engine that is used.
