Hey,

We're working on a sort of Asteroids shooter for our next game and I wondered if anyone would like to donate models.

The initial game would be totally freeware, but ***disclaimer***  it is possible that if enough features were added, that we would be selling the game.  Reason for that is that my brother does all the programming himself, and we create the sounds and music...

I realize that probably won't appeal to many and that is fine.  I've been working on models, and have a few, but I'd like to expand the number of ships in the game to a larger number.  It is also very possible that the game will never be anything more than a freeware Asteroids clone.  It just depends on if we feel that the game could be more than it is.

This is the 3rd project I've been involved with, and the other 2 games did fairly well...which means I was able to pay for the copies of all the art programs I use...but not for any of my timeFrown.

Anyway, long-winded, but I thought I'd post it for any who might be interested.  If you have a model we could use, we'd certainly put your name in the credits and on the website as a contributer.  If you have any questions or rants, let me know!

Les and Alan have tons of good looking space ships. What type of models are you looking for exactly? I would love to help out. How about some screen shots?

We currently only have a selection screen working in any way shape or form...but I'll try to get a snap of it up, its fun.

Looking for a variety of ships.  Les's stuff is wonderful, in fact one of the ships is based off of his eagle model tutorial, but with a different cockpit and the wings I did more like his wraith model.  I haven't looked through anyone elses.  I think getting a range that feels like each is being made by a different species of alien could prove useful, but I'm open to anything.  Again, its currently a simple game, you choose one of a half dozen ships and destroy asteroids and other ships.  Having ships that looked like they were created by different space species would allow a little more "plot" development.
One of the problems I have is that most of my stuff looks similar.  I think that is a common thing most of us run into is that you can often figure out who made the model by seeing the model.

Again long-winded, but simple fighter craft to larger craft (carrier type?) of styles that would make them appear to be of different origins is what I think we're looking forSmile

Cyrus,
Let me know what kind of poly-count you can work with. I assume you would want it as low as possible. I'll try to comeup with something different looking for you.

Good quesiton, one I am working with.  I don't have 3D canvas in front of me, but I'll check when I get home to get a better number of what will work.  Some of that peice is still under discussion.  The typical thought process of as good as possible with as few polys as possible will apply, and I'll try to get some hard set limits soon.

Awesome...is it textured by chance?

I'd love to get it, we'll are using .md2 as the format, but I could use it in both that and .3dc if it is small enough.

I don't think I have near enough room in my hotmail account, so if you could send models to rdcarroll7@peoplepc.com that should work out great!

What engine/language are you using to build your game?

I don't do any of that part.
My brother has used C+ in the past and I assume that is what he will continue with.  He'd considered doing this at first in DirectX, but has opted for OpenGL instead.  Everything is typically built from the ground up.

I'll try to create some textures for it if you like it.

Would definately like it...

I've been busy trying to buy a new car...taking that new car back...and having my fridge die all at the same time...and I'm doing 10+ hour days at work, gotta love salary.  Anyway, that is why I haven't responded lately, but I certainly would like the model!
