Alan, just a quick question.

Why did 3dc use POV?.... Was there something about it over other RTs?

Just asking Smile

It just seemed a logical choice. Are there any other good free ones other than POVRay and BMRT.

Ok.........

Try these:

MolMol
Moray
MentalRay
MegaPov
MegaPovPlus
Radiance
RayShade
Renderpark
SuperRes
Spatch

Etc.... The list goes on and on.

Some of em are better that others (and there are loads of "Upgrades" for stuff like Povray) but I think that you could use most of them.

Iceman,
Where did you find MegaPovPlus, and is it fully compatible with the new PovRay v3.5?

Hi Les..... Sorry for the DL in the reply, but just getting stuff done with the compo game Smile

As far as I know it is full compat with PR3.5, and there are lots of places where ya can go for info and downloads.

Here are some links mate.....

http://www.swin.edu.au/astronomy/pbourke/povray/
http://www.mailbag.com/users/mtgordon/megapov.html

Those should give ya a good start.

Well... MegaPOV and MegaPOVPlus are just POVRay of course, Radiance is unix only, Moray is a modeller for POVRay etc. The point is that there aren't many "free" raytracers that would actually work and of those that do very few (if any) are in the same class as POVRay.
