Not sure where to post this, here or 6 R 3. Or even if I should, with the problems I have with POV.
Playing with renders, all seems fine. Same textures- just change the size or lighting- or fog- suddenly I get the " can't find textures" error. [ textures are where they are supposed to be, both in 3DC and in the include file of POV] I've taken the same snapshot after an error [ same settings] and had it work. I have asked about this before, but....
Am I the only one this happens to?

Thank you very much !! I can delete 65 shots from trying to figuer it out. 6.003 seems really slow loading the snapshot window, also.
 Thanks again-KB

Hi to all,
yes sometimes I have this problem too.

My trick, that work almost everytime, is to save the project in POV-Ray format than you can render normally with 3DC (maybe the saving operation set something in the texture path  ??? )

Bye.

Hi guys,
I haven't had this problem so far, but would be interested in hearing about any other solutions you may come up with, or any other problems you might run into concerning textures and Pov.

Have I got this right ?

Sometimes pov says it can't find the textures but then the next time you try it can ? or something else ? (I'm off to read the other posts....)

Well just to muddy the waters a little.....

I have just downloaded pov and installed it.
Added a cude to 3dc and textured the sides using a texture off a cd (I did not move the texture from the cd but just loaded it from there eg it is not in 3dc's texture folder or in pov's !)

rendered ok - no problems

???

I thought I had to put any textures into 3dc/pov folders....

Heelo Alan,
I mentioned this phenomenon before- I'm trying to reproduce it but that's the strange part. A scene renders ok, then after changing lighting [ or size- that seemed to be when it occured for me ] you get the error. One time I eliminated the background textured face [ not the background-because that I've always had a problem trying to render that] and had the scene render, thought I was onto something- but now I can't render the same scene. Like I said, this has happened before, so it's not any particular scene.http://www.amabilis.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi?board=3DCanvasProGeneral;action=display;num=1046181737and http://www.amabilis.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi?board=3DCanvasModelFeedback;action=display;num=1046151532
I was glad to here that kirk ran into this also-you use the same textures ,ok ,then suddenly they're not to be found.

I'll try cubes to see if I can reproduce it.

I think the only way is to start from scratch- allthough I have had a scene render after being rejected-- usually once it is rejected, going back to the original wont render.
 Have to try later.

I think I know what the problem is. You need to save your model at least once before rendering if you have textures applied. (Unless the textures are not in one of the "normal" locations.)

Perhaps there should be a warning for this? I'll have to think about how to do it.

Well, set a flag every time a texture is changed and reset it when the project is saved; when the Ray-Tracing is started spawn a requester if the flag is setted... Wink

Bye.

>Frown Well- I changed to 6.004- loaded the scene that has been vexing me- it renered, no problem. Then I changed the fog setting- it rendered !  Red Face Then I changed the fog and anti-alaising- bang ! can't find textures- reloaded scene, saved to a different file, no render. Went back to the original file that rendered- now it wont render either.
Went back a couple of modle stages- put the same stuff back in- saved- rendered, ok.  Then I changed the fog setting- resaved-  " can't find textures". Went back to the remade scene that rendered and got error.

I'm putting this on my "to investigate" list. I haven't had any similar problems, but I don't spend a lot of time rendering with POVRay.

This has happened to me too.  Usually it is just every other time it will have a hard time rendering.  When it really stops working completely, one way that I have tried that always fixes it is to reinstall povray.
