I like this one Kirk,GREAT work!
Especially the background. Did you create this yourself? is it rendered with pov-ray? i'm trying to create some nice bg's myself but when i use a bitmap or any material or texture as a bg it shows up in 3D Canvas, when rendered with pov' it disappears ??? bye.jay |

Polybuilder,
Make sure a copy of the texture file is in the "include" folder in PovRay, or else Pov will not be able to use it in the rendering. Les |

Les, thanks for the reply
I tried this and there's still no differ I used one of the gem materials in canvas (for a tester) copied this and pasted it in "include" folder in pov's root This didn't work ??? I then started a new texture from scratch in PaintShop Pro and saved this in both the "textures" folder in canvas and the "include" folder in pov. Still no joy Are all the things I'm doing correct? later,Jay. |

Jay,
It sounds like you are doing everything right. Usually when I have a problem like this it's because I forget to put the file in PovRay's "include" folder. Are you doing anything else "extra" with the texture file like changing it in any way, or placing it over another texture? Also make sure the texture file type is either .bmp or .png as these are the most commonly used image file types in PovRay. These are the only things I can think of right now that might cause a problem. If you can't get this worked out, let me know and we'll look at it from another angle. Les |

Les,
O.k., I've played around with this for a few hours And this is what I've tried and gained knowledge of. I've placed a background image in the 'include' folder in Pov-ray. In 3D Canvas I click File>Properties and click the 'select image' button, where I can select my image from the 'include' folder. The choices of file types or formats from here are bmp. Jpg. Gif. I saved my background into each of these file types and then tried each one, but the image still wasn't in my scene after rendering. I placed a copy of the three file types into the 'texture' folder in 3D Canvas as well to make sure the background was recognised, don't know if this makes a difference or not.... Still nothing.... If it's any assistance the background does flicker into existence just for a split second at the end of rendering and then disappears. I just can't think any more... ??? ??? ??? The "include" folder is just inside the root Pov-ray folder? Is there any other "include" folder in Pov? Jay. |

polybuilder,
I just tried an experiment with a background pic, and seem to be having the same problem as you... ??? I'm not sure why this is happening, but will look into it more over the coming weekend. Just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day any more...LOL There is only the one "include" folder in PovRay Les |

Hi, KB
Maybe you could help me on this one :-/ There doesn't seem to be much else to do, just put the file into the INCLUDE folder in pov-ray, but this is not working out! What else can I do? It would be nice to have this feature work i.e when I use a background in 3D Canvas, it will still be there when i render using Pov-ray It would beat using a CUBE or CYLINDER and texturing that. Thanks. Jay |

Hello polybuilder,
I've downloaded my whole texture file [prior to my crash 2 days ago] and have had problems with POV rendering. You can check out http://www.amabilis.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi?board=POVRay;action=display;num=1047351104;start=8 , the final post is from Richard. When I want to have a background rendered, I use the "create a face" [ or resize a cube ] , resize it to the size I need for the background, apply the texture, and render it that way. That seems to work, just more steps. If I ever recover from my crash trauma, I'll be able to experiment. Anyway, try the face or cube, I'm not sure if I ever had the background render. KB :P |

I'll check that link now If nothing works, I'll use the create face option and texture that, Later, Jay |

Hello Kirk,
Jay here, you seem to have no problem with this. Your Image looks GREAT! :'( Have you ever had a problem with rendering the background with Pov-ray? Jay. |

Hi Kirk,
Great pic!!! I'm curious on the background as well...it looks as though you might have made it in another program? I am especially curious about the "halo" effect. And yes, I would like to know if you rendered in POV as well. I am just starting to play with 3DC and POV so I would like to know more. Again, great work!!!! |
