Not to be outdone by Brentton Smile

The loco that Thomas was based on.

A rather bizarre 2-2-0 with animated outside motion

I started both over a year ago, but I've made many 0-6-0's over the past 4 years

(I think I'm up to about 30 steam locos now, excluding all the variations on a theme)

I've been a bit busy with Trainz and other programming work to do much modelling, but I'm slowly getting back to it.

Paul, Im very interested in your "recipe" for texturing the boiler, it has a very realistic sheen, could you impart some of you knowledge to us?

meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and tasty with mustard

Firstly, the image above comes from my shape viewer program which is designed to view MS Train sim models (and hopefully TRS models too soon)

There are a couple of things I do for the boiler.
Firstly, I set the specular material value to 50 or higher before applying the texture.
This makes it shine in MSTS and the Trainz export. MSTS only has 3 levels, none, low and high shine. My TRS export uses actual values from the material so you can get more variation - higher numbers give more focused shine.

The other thing I do is apply a shade gradient to the texture from the top of the boiler to the bottom to accentuate the shading, there is also a band of slightly lighter shading, with a slight blue tint, about 3/4 of the way up, which simulates the sky refelection e.g. below....

The main trick with black locomotives is to never use black !
