Whenever I try to open a model that I exported from 3d Canvas as .obj it says "error reading file" It says the same when I try to open a 3d canvas file in other modeling programs. Any idea whats wrong?

It's probably because those two formats are unique to 3D CANVAS and not formats that are considered "standard".

You would need to use the EXPORT option in 3D CANVAS, and select a supported format like 3D Studio, autocad, truespace, wavefront, lightwave, directX, etc.

These use that format for the import into Lithunwrap.

Right, thats what I did. I exported an .obj from 3D canvas and opened it in lithunwrap and got the error.

I think if you use the Export option from the file menu you are exporting the complete scene, which may cause a problem for Lithunwrap which has now been replaced with Ultimate Unwap 3D.
Try using the Export Selection instead.....
1) Right click the model
2) From the drop down menu choose Export Selection and DirectX Object.

This exports just the selected model and should load into Lithunwrap ok.....at least it did when I was using Lithunwrap.

If your doing a lot of unwraping it's worth purchasing Ultimate Unwrap 3D.
