I have to build a wheel with spokes for a diesel machine.
How to build a rim with cylinder primitive (I suppose) in 3DCanvas Plus ? Or any tutorials how to build wheels for MSTS ? Thanks for the help. |

Try using Pauls plug-ins for MSTS...you want the MSTS Engineer plugin..for your wheels...it's great.
http://www31.brinkster.com/decapod Make sure you get the correct set of plugins for the version of 3DC you are using. Not sure if these work with the Plus version...you may need to upgrade to the pro version. Bazza Mrs Bazza says "just keep taking the tablets dear, and everything will be OK" |

Unfortunately the plugins only work with the Pro version.
For a rim, try making a cylinder of the inside rim, remove the end faces. Select all faces and extrude by the rim width. Use the Solidify operation and consolidate operations to finish. |

You might also try the lathe object building tool. While it has a tendency to add more faces than you want, you do have control over points (using the blue dot mode) as well as control over quality (faces).
Rather than starting the LATHE tool at 0, shift it right a bit to start the inside rim. It will leave a hole in the center. As Paul said, follow up with Solidify to fill any teeny holes that might remain. It's not ideal and will not work as well as Paul's plugin, but it can be done. I can make a 56 face wheel pretty quickly, though it ends up looking a lot like KUJU Default MSTS wheels. ;-) As for making spokes... Yikes! Maybe a single face with a Alpha Mask TGA file would be better? |
