I'm having trouble changing the transparency over time.. I'm just staring out a on single sphere just so I can practice. But this is what I'm doing:
I drag a sphere out on the screen. Press Animate. Change the sphere to a simple red but at 100 translucency (so that's it's invisible)... I drag the bar to 10 seconds, hit the operations adjust tool, select the sphere, change it's transluceny to 55.. but when I press play on the animation frame 0 has the 55 translucency now and the whole animation is just looking at this sphere already visible!!
Richard- I don't seem to be able to do this either. Using 3DC 5.7a. I can animate the material, but not the translucency value. I think it's a great idea, does it work in 3DC-6? Or are we both missing something?

Woops, I sent you to the wrong tutorial. The Adjust Operation tool won't do this for you. What you want to do is apply a material at time 0, move to the next time click on the material operation in the Layers List, change the translucency and click "Update" on the Layers List.
Hoorah!! Finally got it! Unless I'm reading your instructions wrongly [is that a word?] after changing the material values, and time setting, just click update, not the material operation. So skip "click on the material operation in the Layers List ".

You do actually need to click on the Material layer to copy its current values to the material palette. But, if the current material is already in the material palette (likely) there is no need.
