I have just recently "sort of" got the hang of 3d modeling, enough so that I can create my own characters/ weapons and structures. I think I also kinda figured a way to texture them. (at least in 3d canvas). Basically all I did was edited some textures in photoshop and "pasted" them onto the faces of my model.

What I want to know is...keeping in mind I know almost nothing about texturing...how to create the thextures that are combined with the .x file to go into the game. I dont want a plain white character in my game, so how do I create the targa file or whatever that is necessary?

My model is already textured but like I said it doesnt seem to be a seperate file, its just stuck to my .3dc model.

How are the textures I see in the default FPSC characters made? It seems complicated.

Do I have to start over and re texture it with a different method?

I have found tutorials about how to import an premade .x model with a texture into a darkBASIC game or FPSC, but there doesnt really seem to be much for someone who is just getting started and knows nothing about how to create a model and texture from scratch and what you need to do to be able to see it with texture in game.

In other words, how to you make the texture (already kinda got this part down), and more importantly, how do you make a seperate file recognized by games that has the textures and that also tells "which texture goes where" like in those funny looking decal Targa images I see in game folders. I have no clue how to make that.

When you export the .x file from 3DC the textures you applied are exported with the .x file.

If they don't show up in your game engine it's usually because the model and textures aren't in the same folder.

Most game engines require both the model and textures to be in the same folder.

Character models are usually unwrapped for texturing, you can do this in 3DC but if you intend creating quite a few character models something like Ultimate Unwrap would give better results.
