One thing I noticed that Max users have is a "show only current object" toggle function.
Selecting an object in the hierarchy could change the visible object.
Could be handy instead of having to make all objects around the one you're working on invisible.

I agree. TSM has a similar function.

Show only mode is quite in the same was as if you have hidden objects. Just click the "visible objects" button on the main toolbar.
