In attempting to export to MSTS I get the message from 3D LP that I need to "Move Texture to Same location as 3DC File". I created the object just fine by opening a new texture file in the Texture File library and used the texture within 3D but apparently I need to put the texture in another file. How do I accomplish that.... I manage to export just fine when using the enclosed textures but I can't figure out how to properly add the texture files I CREATE to the proper location. All other files ( S, SD, and Ref) are properly created. HELP!!!!
Do you mean the basic program file on my hard drive or is there a "Textures Only" file folder I must look for? I did not create a separate texture file but saved my texture bitmaps to the desktop and then loaded them into 3D working canvas library from the desktop. I know I am leaving out a step but I can't locate the texture file within 3D Canvas LP to store these texture bitmaps correctly. Please excuse my density! Joe C.
Let me walk you through the steps I am taking so you can correct me where I am going wrong: 1. I create my texture bitmap just fine... no problems. 2. I "Save" the bitmap to the desktop 3. I open 3d Canvas LP and create a new File in the Texture library.... importing the bitmap from the desktop 4. Now I go ahead and texture my project 5. And then when I try to export it to MSTS I get the error on not having the texture file in the same file with 33D Canvas. 6. When and at what point should I have saved that bitmap texture into the file it is requiring me to have???
I tried placing them in the Media Texture folder and that didn't work so obviously that is not the correct file.... also when I opened my texture to work on the project I lost those earlier files with gems, miscellaneous, wood, wood 2, etc. How do I get those restored to the texture library?
I guess I'll have to go back to the tutorials because I AM HOPELESSLY LOST. I successfully exported the first rough model I attempted last weekend using textures already in the program... without creating my own. Now that I attempted a "home grown" texture i simply can't follow the logic.... oh well?
Richard... Thanks for your patience. I just checked the Scene Detail Plugin and the correct texture BMP for my object is listed. Where does the program look for that texture when using the Wizard??? I must have it in the wrong location!
I think the problem you are having is that you are adding your textures to the texture library, and not loading them direct. What I do is this:
Create bmp / tga files Save / copy them in the same folder as my 3dc model - e.g. c:\models\ClassA4\ Load them direct into the texture tools area using the primary texture tab (second on left) and the open file icon. Apply them to model. Use wizard, which now exports the s files, and ace files to the correct folder within MSTS.

Thanks Jon.... I will try your method. I had no trouble following the tutorials and getting rather simple objects to export properly. My problem came when I tried to develop my own texture bitmaps and wound up placing them in the wrong location or not properly naming them and pairing them with the object I was working on. Do I need to create a new file for each object or do you just put all your "homegrown" models in the same working file. I think that is my problem. When I added my textures to the existing textures I placed them in the Miscellaneous category and that seemed to work okay. Otherwise its just a case of trial and error.
Jon... a follow-up question. You say you add them to your project folder direct.... but I created my texture before the prj0ject was started and saved the Bitmap to my desktop. I assume I can then add it to the project folder when I am ready to add the textures to the model???
It's not that Canvas (the program) can't find your texture, it was able to open it and you saw it applied to your mesh.
The problem is... the scripting of the wizard references where the 3dc file for the model is saved and uses that directory prefix to grab the source texture files for the ACE conversion of the texture to make it compatible with MSTS. (did that make sense?)
It's not looking in the texture properties area for the file reference. Once you get this under your belt, it seems to work everytime.
Yes, it did make sense. The prefix it is looking for needs to be in the correct file. If I move it to one of the categories already listed in the texture library will this satisfy the program when it looks to convert and export the textures? For example.... I downloaded all the extra textures from the upgrade file.... so, if I just add the texture to the list of "Wood 2" or Minerals or whatever, it should be able to find my bitmap texture under that file when I go to convert....correct??????
I think I understand why you are having problems. If you install your downloaded texture libraries to the same folder as the other texture libraries 3D Canvas (and the wizard) should be able to find those textures - always.
3D Canvas will not look for a texture across your whole computer. It will only look where the model (3dc) file is, the standard 3D Canvas folders, and the locations of your active libraries.
EUREKA! Thanks to Richard and Jon for all the help. Finally figured it out.... I've been making objects like crazy all afternoon (after I got home from college).
