I've contacted Auran about the possibility of creating a Trainz exporter. No word back yet, but if they were to respond this time with a "Yes" (very unlikely I would guess) would you be interested in it?

Would definately be interested  in (and use) a trainz exporter. Much better then having to use g-max as an export tool!

Cheers

I voted "I might."  I don't have Trainz yet.  If/when I get it, I would be very interested in such a feature.

I hope you don't mind but I have sent a private message to Tony Hilliam (Auran CEO) on another forum drawing attention to your email.  Smile

It doesn't look like I will get a response. I'll email them again for 6.2. It's now too late for 6.1.

Auran are in the midst of their roll-out of Trainz 2004, so maybe they are waiting to see how it goes before responding, but I would have thought out of courtesy they would have said something to you?

One would expect that the extra thousands of possible models available virtually immediately following conversion from MSTS models would have been a good selling point for them, especially now that MSTS2 is delayed until 'nobody knows when'...

Mike.

I mentioned this in trainz forum... someone (not from Auran) mentioned that they signed an agreement with Discreet so that Discreet would be the only modeler supported.

That makes no sense to me, by the way.

Too bad. That explains why they don't respond to my emails. I would guess that they got a discount from Discreet for an exclusive.

Very discouraging... being given GMAX to use is like asking for a 10-speed bike and bing handed a 18-wheeler BIG RIG on training wheels. Lots of power and gears and buttons and doodads and things you will never use in really odd places... when all you need is a 10 speed bike to from point a to point b.

I'm going to have to get a copy of trainz now...

I have been looking through the .im file format and it seems relatively simple.
I suspect once I have sorted out the format it may only take a few days to write the export function.

The decoding of the format may take a bit longer, plus I have other work to finish too
