Hi Richard,
I have made this water tower and it failed to import into MSTS....it comes in at 1962 faces and 2600 points...I have made other objects that are near this size ....file size is 1.68 megs still within parameters....but it fails...here is the details of the scene....hope you can help.....Ive e-mailed you the scene details because the forum wouldn't let me just attach it or include it in this message....here is a pic though. |

One other question that may be the problem is that one of the structures (a ladder) was merged together and it was in an orientation not in the X, Y or Z plane but across them (its selection box was at an angle).
Would this make a difference? Rick |

It sounds like you hit some limit of MSTS.
Perhaps someone has some suggestions to resolve this. Overcoming MSTS limitations is not really my area. Richard |

Any ideas at all about the object not loading?
I am trying to delete parts and load it to see if a particular item is hanging it up...but so far no luck. If necessary I will start again and see what happens. Thanks Rick |

Hi Rick
You probably already know this, but have you added the object to your .ref file for your route? Does the Wizard already do this? The only other thing that comes to mind is what your already trying by deleating parts untill it imports in MSTS. Patrick |

Hi Patrick,
Yes it was in the REF file and I tried to delete parts until it imported...the funny thing is I had to delete more than one part and it worked...so I designed it to be two seperate sections ( The Globe and the hut on top were one section and the ladder on top and everything below the globe was another ) and it imported just fine....even though the unit did not exceed the 2000 faces or 2500 points of MSTS it didn't import as a whole unit. Strange. Well it worked now as two pieces so its in the sim you mieces.....just a Tom & Jerry slip up. Later Rick |

Hi Rick,
It must be one of MSTS funny limitations? I have built a breakdown crane with 2535 faces/5976 points and over 2.5 megs file size and it accepts it fine. However it was set up as 8 parts, jib, cab, main etc all children of main - MSTS seems to accept quite large models if they are subdivided in this manner. Mike. |

Hi Mike,
I subdivided my Tank into Main {Base {Legs {Ladders Each section had no more or less of any parts than another and some of the items were merged into one....but still no luck with it...so I don't know what happened to it other than once I remove the Tank and the upper deck and bracing running thru the tank the rest of it imported fine...and those pieces (bracing tank and upper deck) all as one model imported fine by themselves...so I dont know what gives with this unit it's just screwy. Tanks (oops) I mean thanks. Rick |

One thing is a possibility, that MSTS can't handle multiple objects intersecting a complex object like a sphere....that's a wag but it'll do for my explanation.

I've sometimes found that adding cylinders (even with some faces removed) to an already complex model can stop it loading in MSTS. If I add other multiple, but simpler objects with the same number of faces its ok. But make it with cylinders and its 'do you want to send a message to Microsoft ' time!
Just a thought. Cheers Richard Scott |
