Hi,
with the new version 5.5c and windows XP I cannot paint using the paintbrush (not floodfill tool) on the end face of a cylinder...it locks up the program and boots to desktop. I can paint just fine with the paintbrush on all other shapes and on cylinder side faces....just the end faces cause a problem. And it doesn't matter if I have resized or moved the object before I try to paint it, the same outcome....any ideas? Controll |

This is very likely a driver issue. You might want to have a look to see if there is an alternate driver available.
Also, if you have a via based motherboard you could look at getting an update AGP driver. Richard |

Richard,
I reverted back to the Microsoft drivers (video) that worked well with your version 5.0a that I was using...I am now using version 5.5c and most of the things work well...however the painting still is not able to paint on the ends of cylinders only. I have been using this system sucessfully with the 5.0a version and now this problem with the 5.5c version....I have to be skeptical that it would be a problem with my system that has created this problem....being the only thing to change is the software version of 3DC ? Has anyone else commented with this problem? I used the newest drivers of Nvidia 2.7.1.0 and they seemed to work as well...no problems except the face painting one. The reverted drivers are the Microsoft signed 1.5.1.3 version and it worked also except for th face painting problem. I can work around the cylinder problem with a square and a ring to carve it into a cylinder and see if that allows me to paint it...I get back to ya on that. Controll |

I still think it is the most likely cause. So you don't have a via motherboard?
Can you give me some details about your system: Video Card Windows Version Motherboard chipset Richard |

Richard,
I have Windows XP Professional with a GForce III 64Mb video card and an Intel 850 Chipset....the motherboard is in a Dell Dimension 8200 system and I can't get any information about the manufacturer because noone at Dell support knows who made it....it's proprietary to Dell...but noone knows who is building the things for Dell....(not having that info sucks) and I can't even tell buy downloading drivers for it because they just have Dell names as well. The system is using RDRAM at 512MB's if that helps at all. Let me know if this helps you figure it out. Thanks Controll |

Perhaps as a work-around you can use the Fill operation with that single face selected?
Until I can reproduce this there isn't much that I can do. I've tried it on both my systems without any troubles. Richard |

Perhaps you could give me the exact procedures required to reproduce this. Start with
1) Run 3D Canvas . . x) 3D Canvas freezes. The more detail the better. And does this happen with all textures? And what is your desktop color depth (should be 32 bit-true color) Richard |

Richard,
Here is the rundown of the use until freeze/boot..... Start Windows XP Pro w/ Nvidia 2.7.1.0 drivers (Have also used the Microsoft certified 1.5.1.3 drivers) Hit START Button Select 3D Canvas Pro Close "Tip of the day" Close "Tip window" Select "FILE" - "OPEN" - 464Hudson20th.3DC Use "Y" axis to change orientation Pull back view in "Z" axis Select "Material Pallette" Select "Wheel.BMP" (it is a 512X512 PhotoImpact produced image) Select "Paint Tool" Place paint brush over cylinder end and left click.... Error occurs. (An Unrecoverable Error Has Occured. If You Continue To Recieve This Message Contact Amabilis Support At Support@amabilis.com (#9) Click "OK" and drops me to desktop. (I do not need to reboot to continue to use the system) ============================================== I then tried your suggestion of using the apply material option. After entering 3D Canvas Pro and selecting the image... Select "Point & Face Tool" Left click on cylinder face Click on "Object Operation Panel" Click "Apply Material to Selection" It turns cylinder 90 degrees and removes the BMP image as previously applied ( no error occurs at this point but I "UNDO" to get back to the starting situation). I am sending the model as is and the BMP "WHEELG.BMP" so you can see if the error is reproduceable. Let me know. Rick |

Hi Rick,
Does this fail if you try to paint a cylinder. One that is dragged and dropped? Richard |

I've reproduced this now. I'll let you know more as I find out more.

This turned out to be a bug where an individual face with more than 49 points was not paintable. A fix will be coming relatively soon. In the mean time you'll need to keep your cylinders to a longitude of 49 or less.
