Trying to create a signal requires several objects in the scene hierarchy with specific names.  The top level object is SIGNAL which may or may not contain an object such as a mast.  The child objects of SIGNAL are things like HEAD1, NUMBER, GRADE each with an object.

The problem, actually several problems, is how to export this as a single s file, which all signals in MSTS are.  I've seen the MSTS utility that takes several 3ds files on makes one s file. But saving out of 3D Canvas as 3ds will strip the necessary key words. So how do I get around this?

I haven't studied texture application yet.  I received a texture panel with the signal file and will assume if I look I will find how to map the various sections to the various signal parts.

I need an xyz coordinate location to reference the lamp placement in the sigcfg file. Is there a better way than guessimate?

If a texture panel isn't needed (signals don't necessarily need them), how do I get around the texturing error I get trying to export to an s file?  I've tried some of the materials application, but that hasn't been successful.

The image shows the searchlight signals in use as they are available now.  I would like to make a version mounted on the gantry.

Thanks for patience with the newbie

Hank,

If you haven't already noticed, please check at the top of this page, and on the right side above the date it should say you have a message.  Click on this, as I have sent you a message basically about the tutorials (and the email you sent me) and what you need to do to export your objects as one .s file:

". . .all you should need to export the multiple objects into one .s file is to arrange and name the objects in 3DCanvas' Hierarchy Panel.  This should also be covered in the tutorials, as hierarchy arrangement is very important in creating rolling stock and locomotives."
