Hello everyone

I am building my first steam locomotive, and I can't
seem to get the main drive wheels to rotate....????

It's in a 2-4-2 configuration, the leading, and trailing
wheels rotate, but the drives do not.

Can anybody point me to a tutorial on getting this job
done?

I have followed the help file in Canvas, but it says that
Train Sim Wizard will do it for you. It doesn't do it for me.
Smile

Thanks for any help you can give
Patrick

Did you select "Steam Engine", the wheel configuration , and identify the parts using the Wizard?

Hi Richard

Yes I did... :-[

I found a leason here at your website on how
to do it manualy, but now the rotation is way to
slow in MSTS...

Is there a setting somewhere to match up the animation
with the locomotive speed?

Thanks
Patrick

Can you send me the model and textures so I can see what the problem is? (richard@amabilis.com)

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Richard

There's really nothing there... Just a frame object (Main)
driver wheels (wheels1, wheels2, ect.), and a couple of
connecting rods (rod01, ect).

But I'll email it to you. Just remember that I have added
animation to the file already, so I don't know if this will
mess anything up for you...

I reset the animation (removed it) before testing.

"Create Default Animation" was turned off. When I turned it on 3DC created animation.

Also, this is a 2-8-2 not a 2-4-2. There was a bug in the TrainSim Wizard where it did not animate the 4th set of drive wheels. It is corrected now and part of 3D Canvas 5.5c revision 6. You can download it here:

Just so you know, only the drive wheels and the connector rod are automatically animated.

Richard

I tried the new version, yet it still isn't working for me...
But the animation works when I do it manualy....

Here's a question.

When trainsim wizard ask about the "Main Wheel Link,
and the Piston", I just push the skip button.. Is this
where the problem is coming in?

All I have at the moment is Rod01, and Rod02.... Do I
need a wheel link, and piston for TSW to animate
properly?

Did you enable "Create Default Animation"?

You can "skip" pretty much anything if you want. But that will result in the parts not being moved to the right location or being named properly. But if the part isn't visible, or is non-existent then there is no problem at all in clicking "skip".

To be honest, it sounds like a problem with the eng file, not your animation - have you checked the diameter or radius (forget which) of the wheels? I had a similar problem with my A4, but I can't exactly remember what the fix was (not at home just now)!
