I just bought a new notebook computer with a Radeon Xpress 200M with 128MB of on board RAM. I've been really impressed with it. It has full support for DirectX 9 and is pretty fast. It is not really capable of playing the latest games, but perfectly acceptable for modelling. It is much faster than a NVIDIA FX5200 based desktop computer.
I am seriously considering getting rid of my desktop computer. I have gotten quite used to the touchpad and I seem to have fewer physical problems (sore shoulders, elbow, less eye strain) since I started using the notebook. The only real negative from a programming point of view is the hard drive is noticably slower. Best of all, you can get a fairly competant notebook with full DirectX 9 support for around $800 US (from Compaq). Richard This message has been edited. Last edited by: Amabilis Support, |

Darn... and I just upgraded to 5 Gig of Ram, and a 512 Video card!!!I spent more on the card than you might spend on the whole note book.

You're probably better off with the Video Card and RAM if you play games. To be honest even with 3D Canvas you are better off with the new card/RAM, but notebooks are definitely now reasonable alternatives.
