Just dopwnloading this from www.fpscreator.com - it is a "first person shooter creator" that look like it could be fun. Hoping to use 3dc to add some bits to the game...
Will let you know what I think of it soon.... There are 10 types of people on this world - those that understand binary and those who don't. |

Looks very promising Alan. I'd be very interested to know what the game and physics engine were like as this can often make or break any games feel of realism.
I'm working with some guys on modding Half Life 2, which uses the tweaked Havoc 2 game engine and offers the most interactive physics and object interaction I have ever seen. I'd be interested to see how this one performs in that department as it certainly looks easy enough to use with building sets, scenes and spawning models. |

I bought it with the intention of using it to make some basic fps style games for my kids.
It is very slow on my machine (athlon 2000+ with 1 gig of ddr) about 33 fps on simle levels dropping to unplayable when I throw in 10+ baddies The editor is fun and very easy to use. The graphics are doom 2 (ish), the AI of the baddies is questionable. I would not recommend (sp?) this to anyone who thinks they could use it to make sellable games but it is fun to play around with. It is still very early days for this product (in fact it is still a "Early adopted version" (I read this as beta product)) and I still have a lot to learn about it. I will try to let you know a bit more about it soon. I might even try to post a couple of demos ? There are 10 types of people on this world - those that understand binary and those who don't. |

Hi Alan,
Sounds like it's like all the rest of the freebies out there. Go figure. If you want a decent game engine you have to lay out the cash or design one yourself if you've got the skills. May I suggest that you look into Blitz? The program is available as a demo to check things out. You have to write the code to produce the game and make your own models, but it's turns out some nice results. http://www.blitzbasic.com/Products/_index_.php Bazza is our resident Blitz 3D expert. Ahhhhhhhh.... the days of Amiga and Commodore, no doubt dinosaurs nowadays, but they were light years ahead of IBM in their time! I sure wish I could get a machine driven by a Motorola chipset that could outshine the IBM clones nowadays. But, I don't think they're available anymore... (Thanks MS, IBM and BG...)
