Finally I have something to say. Optimizing was a REAL struggle. It's not always clear what is going to make things faster, and what is going to make things slower.

The good news is that 6.6.5.4 will be 2x as fast as 6.6.5.3 under some circumstances. That is with a complex object, in 4 or 5 views, with a graphics card with hardware T&L (basically every NVIDIA and ATI card released in the last 5 years).

This was supposed to take me 2 days and it took me 6. But, it was worth it.

I still have a bit to do, so I am not 100% certain that I'll release it today.

I tried that but it worked ok. The only time I had troubles in French was when I put "3.0" instead of "3,0".

I finished 6.6.5.4 yesterday, but I'm having trouble uploading. I gave up last night thinking my server was not working right. But it looks like it is just really busy.

I did some more research on who exactly will see improvements with this release.

Anyone who has a NVIDIA GeForce 4 (not MX) or an ATI Radeon 7000 or higher will see very signifant improvements (up to 2.5x improvement). That's most NVIDIA/ATI cards released in the last 4 years.

Others will see anything from 1.1x to 1.5x improvement depending on how slow or fast your processor is. Slower processors will see more improvement.

As an example my 2 Ghz NVIDIA FX 5200 system is 2x faster with 5 views and about 1.5x faster with 1 view.

Interestingly, I found out that my lowely notebook computer is significantly faster than my ATI 9800 Pro equipped desktop computer with 3D Canvas Pro. I think it handles 32 bit indices better (that's my guess at least).
