3D Canvas 8.0 Preview 2 is available for download: 3D Canvas 8.0 Preview 2
This is a semi-functional version of 3D Canvas. Generally features that do not work have been hidden. I have got quite a few operations working in this version that weren't in Preview 1. Some of the operations will get upgrades in Preview 3 to better support selections on multiple shapes. I believe I have fixed all bugs found in Preview 1. I think this release is pretty stable generally. It could conceivably be used in conjunction with 3D Canvas 7 via import/export (preferably via Direct X). Unfortunately, I don't have a test system to try this installation out on, so I don't know if it will install properly or not. But, in this version I have added a DLL required by Vista that was not in Preview 1. In this release very few people will receive "automatic" free upgrades. I will have to send new license codes to those who are entitled to a free upgrade. I haven't quite figured out how to go about implementing the free upgrades yet. In the mean time, very few of the Pro features work yet in 8.0 anyhow, so it probably isn't a major issue. Anyone who purchased 3D Canvas on December 5th, 2007 or later will get a free upgrade to 8.x. This version shouldn't affect your existing 3D Canvas installation in any way. It should be fully independent of version 7.1 and earlier. I don't have a list of the new features quite yet, but this post has details on everything: 3D Canvas 8.0 Progress If you tried a previous alpha or beta, you will need to delete the folder "3D Canvas 8.0.0" from your "My Documents" folder before running the Beta for the first time. I'm very curious to know if User Account Control is required with this version. I made some changes that might allow it to run with User Account Control off. I'd appreciate it if someone could try this version with User Account Control off. I can't test this myself due to my development environment. |

Installs and runs fine on my computer.
Editing any operation parameter results in runtime error 5, after that an unrecoverable error. regards Gerrit |

Thanks. I haven't had that happen yet, but I have come across related errors.

I made a pretty big last minute mistake, so I am going to republish Preview 2. It will be about an hour.

I have another 10 operations working for Preview 3. They didn't take long at all, which is nice for a change.
I'm hoping to get another couple working today, and then upgrade some of them to better take advantage of the new features of 8.0. |

I am not sure if this should have been resolved in preview 2a, but the runtime error 5 is still there.
By the way, the point size is normal again. Regards Gerrit |

It was supposed to be resolved in Preview 2a. Under what circumstances do you get the error? I mean, specifically what do I need to do to get the error?
Glad to hear the point size is resolved. |

1. Take a cube
2. Select a face with the face selection tool 3. Extrude the face, mine is preset to 0.5 4. Edit the extrude amount, in the left hand panel to 1.0 5. press enter and click in the view port. Leaving the field with the tab key does not give the error. Regards Gerrit |

I just finished updating the Bridge operation to take advantage of the new multi-shape selection of faces. It's the first that really uses it.
You can now select a face in each of two shapes and bridge between them. There is no longer any need to merge the two shapes first. |

3D Canvas 8.0 Preview 2 doesn't work with me. No intro screen, no windows, no anything. My OS is windows 7, 32 bit. 3D Canvas 8.0 Preview 1 had worked fine.

Vlado,
I'm trying to think of a cause, but nothing is coming to me. The only major change in the installation is that I added something that Vista required. Maybe you could uninstall, re-install? |

It's my fault. I installed the new version over the old version.
After uninstalling and installing again, it's working OK now. Regards Vlado |

I thought I had made it so an uninstall wasn't necessary, but I guess I messed that up.

Today I upgraded the "Weld" and "Weld To" operations to weld across multiple shapes. You can also weld two faces together where the faces are on different shapes.
I'm wondering if I should put out another preview. There are lots of new functions available. It will likely be the last new preview for a while. The next few items are going to be much harder and time consuming. Assuming I actually get to work the whole month, a more, or less, full version should be available by the end of the month. |
