Hi All,

I've decided to put out an alpha version of 3D Canvas 7.1.3. This will allow me to update the Rail Simulator Exporter sooner rather than later.

The "basics" of 3D Canvas will work in this version, but the object builders, plug-ins, scripts, and many exporters will not work.

It will be possible to install this version at the same time as version 7.1.2. This will allow modelling to be done in 7.1.2 and exporting from 7.1.3.

Hopefully I'll be able to get this version to a more usable status in a few weeks and to the fully functional release by early June.

An update of the RS exporter before the release of 3DC 7.2.0 will be certainly much appreciated.

Just for curiosity, is the 7.1.3 version using some of the 7.2.0 code (at least for the export)?

And as…

… it'll be a good incentive to quickly try the new exporter.

I've made quite a lot of progress on the Alpha. All the imports/exports seem to work now, with the exception of the MD2 export and BVH import. I still have lots of testing to do with the exports.

I found some shortcuts to getting plug-ins working. Many of the plug-ins now compile, but it will be a while until they actually work.

I'm planning the Alpha release for Friday (May 9th). Hopefully by then there will be a version of 3D Canvas that "sort of" works and is functionally complete.

This is a pretty tough change in 3D Canvas for me, but I'm quite excited about it. There are some architectural changes that really improve 3D Canvas' scripting/plug-in capabilities, and make the transition to Visual Studio .NET much easier.

DOM107,

The code for the Rail Simulator export will initially be identical to 7.1.2. Once I am sure it works properly, I'll start making the enhancements/fixes. It's a little bit complicated, but version 7.2 of 3D Canvas will be a blend of Visual Studio .NET and Visual Studio 6. The plug-ins will continue to be written in Visual Studio 6 for a while. At least that's the plan. Once I have the core of 3D Canvas in Visual Studio .NET, I'll have a better idea about the future.

I've got a small update to the Trainz exporter to fix a bug - will send it very soon.
Environment maps are always set to full power after the conversion to import/export format.

I also sent you a small update to the butt objects a while back, to butt against the inside of a bounding box.

I've made quite a bit more progress on the Alpha. Everything compiles now and I have started verifying that things actually work. So far all I've manged to verify is the MD2 export. But, that's a start.

Things look good for Friday's release.
