Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone would like to contribute models or parts for libraries for 3D Canvas Trainworks.

I don't need many models. I just want to have some samples to send out along with Trainworks so that people can get some idea of how models are built from playing with the parts.

I'd also like to use the models in tutorials for Rail Simulator.

The minimum I think I need are:

1) A steam engine of similar complexity of the Scotsman in MSTS.

2) A coach of some sort. Preferably with animation, but that's not necessary.

3) An animated scenery object

4) A simple scenery object such as a building

I'd like to provide a few of each, but I'll take what I can get.

As soon as I get some suitable samples to work with, I'll start on my tutorials for Rail Simulator.

If you have something to contribute, you can send it to submissions@amabilis.com or support@amabilis.com?

Thanks in advance to everyone who contributes.

Or, if someone knows of any models that have been released into the public domain.

Here's an animated wind pump I did for MSTS but never released.

I've sent Richard the source for this model which was the one I used for the steam loco tutorial.

You can also download the 3DC file from here:

Thanks Paul. That's a really good choice for my steam locomotive tutorial. I've used "Scotsman" from MSTS in most of my tutorials which of course I can't use in the upcoming tutorials. I'm going to provide it in 3DC format and X format (as though it was exported from another program).

And thanks for the Wind pump.

Frans,

Thanks. That's a really good choice for my "coach" tutorial. Unfortunately, it's going to be the second or third I'm going to write, so I'll need a model soon. I'll probably have to find another one.

Big Peter,

These sorts of models are great for beginners since they sort of show how things are built.

I have seen some documentation on shadows. I thought it was provided with the dev tools. I forget exactly where.

Btw, I'm thinking about creating the shadows volumes automatically on export. It's not hard to do. I already do this within 3D Canvas for shadows. But, they won't be as efficient as ones created manually.

The shadow models could be the first LOD you generate automatically instead of the whole model - they don't need to be as detailed.

Richard,

Finally starting to model again. I've sent you the source texture and 3DC files for this simple signal box from the Guilford Transportation Line in Massachusetts. I've included a 2 door version as well.

Thanks. I definitely still need some.

I think there was someone who used TSM that said they would supply some models if I enhanced the TSM import to import texture information. I do that now... hint... hint...

Btw, I registered 3DCTrainworks.com today. Trainworks will have it's own website.
