Hi All,

3D Canvas 7.1.2.0 is now available for download: Download 3D Canvas 7.1.2.0

This release, and the previous 7.1.1.3, has quite a few fixes for the Rail Simulator export and the Train Simulator Wizard and is only intended for those who need the Trainworks features of 3D Canvas. It also includes some updates to the help file related to creating and exporting trains.

3D Canvas 7.1.1.2 will continue to be the primary version of 3D Canvas for those not using the Trainworks features of 3D Canvas.

A reminder that 3D Canvas Pro users need to enable the Trainworks functions via Toos -> Options -> Misc.

I should mention that there were some changes to the installation that I couldn't test. I don't think there should be any problems though.

Frans,

Can you send me the model with the error 5?

Also, I've done no work on Trainz. I hope to start work on that soon.

Hi All,

First post so please be gentle.

I'd like to install V7.1.2.0 and I understand that I should uninstall my existing version.

Should I also uninstall the TrainworksExtras7113?
What about the 7113 help?

Thanks in advance for your posts,

Shadders.

Hi,

Yes unsinstall everything related to 7113 except 3DCanvasUpgraderAddIn7.
With the new version you get new help, new extra file.

I found 2 export bugs:
1) The error message about too many child groups is displayed but hopefully the export goes on and the object looks OK in KRS.

2) I used the clone by reference function in the material editor. The cloned objects are not showing in KRS.

#1... is that a bug? I'm not certain how. Can you explain?

Well, I see that the model looks properly exported in KRS. So I would think there is no reason to warn about too many child groups...

But I just counted the groups next to the main level: 25. I removed one and the message is gone.
Maybe KRS is more tolerant than it says it is!

Sorry, no 3DC bug.

I have had problems where I do not get an error message saying I have too many groups and it exports ok... (I use the export igs from the main menu)

however RailSim Blueprint editor then only renders the main component.. removing one group cures this behaviour

To me... too many child groups is informational. It means I need to spend some time and clean up my modeling work.

I have had similar problems with only getting the main object appear in Asset Editor. I made a loco tender that exported, but its wheels did not. If I added sub objects they did not appear. I deliberately use the word appear rather than export, because if I import the igs back into Canvas, the wheels are there, so they are exporting ok. I had begun to wonder if the issue was with Canvas and the Rail Sim Upgrade, as problems have possibly only started since we got that.

Before posting anything here I wanted to do some testing (really make sure I wasn't doing something stupid, always a distinct possibility). So I created a basic shape of two cubes merged into one object. I exported this as a scenery item and there it was, no problem. I then added a cube as a sub-object and again, it exported no problem. I then added another cube, again as a sub object. This exported, but the first sub object did not appear, the new one appeared to take priority. I merged the second cube and on export the original sub object appeared as well. I tried various additions and the effect was random. At one point I had two cylinders exporting with the basic shape but some cubes I added did not appear. Then, weirdness on weirdness, they suddenly all started appearing ok. I hadn't done anything different, it just happened! Quick as a flash I loaded up my tender, exported and sure enough the wheels were there this time. So either the effect is random, or it has cured itself!

So don't know what it is, but it would be interesting to know if this has only started happening to people since the Rail Sim Upgrade.

Cheers

Richard Scott
